I was never using that logic. That was all you pal. I haven't mentioned anything about the numbers game. You're the one that brought it up. I think managers focus to much on the numbers in today's game.

If they are holding him on, then he doesn't even consider stealing. Therefore it open's a big hole on the right side for no reason.

They are a small sample size, but I never said anything about pinch hitting him against a lefty or not playing him on the road. Who knows, Bruce and Votto may be lefty killers for their entire career, but I'd be willing to bet they both hit over 30 points better against righties in 5 years. Why not throw Brandon Phillips between two lefties? He hits lefties very well and if the other team wants to bring in a lefty to face Griffey and Dunn, then they are going to have to face Phillips as well.

With that said I still think its poor strategy overall. Its sort of like the old-school thinking of having your corner infielders guard the line IN CASE someone hits a shot down the line which then opens up the routine groundball that prolongs the inning.

 

I'm just not into the cliched by the book managing philosphy.

I never said he wouldn't. But thats not his game. I was as mad as anyone when he even swung at the 3-0 pitch. It was ball four anyway.

I must admit as a Cincinnati fan that I am getting tired of taking shots from national pundits about how much we as fans do not appreciate Griffey. I appreciated his talents in the 90s. He was the best player in the game - in the 90s.

 

Today, his contract kills this team and we're not getting back what we're paying for. Why is that so hard for the pundits to grasp?

So you'd rather have a guy on second than first. That makes a lot of sense.
