June 10, 200818 yr There is a complete list of all the players who are attending the Elite Camp. Over 100 players and quite a few in-state players. Rumors out there that Daniel Orton showed up today. Have you heard how the Holmes players are doing?
June 10, 200818 yr Did Tamaron Manning for Scott Co. play middle school ball in Scott Co.? How do kids get into the Elite Camp? Are they invited or do you just pay the money and if you are invited do you have to pay any money? Just wondering what makes this an Elite Camp compared to other camps. Manning played varsity last year as an eighth grader. He is from Scott County.
June 10, 200818 yr This is a watered down elite camp. Too many players to look at for 2 days of camp that are not SEC caliber players. They should have brought in around 35-40 kids they really wanted to look at for the two days. It looks like team #4 has UK's verbal commits as well as players they are looking at like Shanklin, Cosby, etc. Clearly clueless as to the reason to have a camp that's considered "elite"...
June 10, 200818 yr My understanding is you get invited to BG's elite camp several ways. Most of the local players are recommended by their high school coaches. The camp contacts the coaches and ask who they think is good enough to send. So for the majority (of the KY kids) it is just up to their High School Coaches. Others come through recommendations, or kids UK is already interested in/or recruiting. I think Billy G mainly started this to generate interest in UK, especially with the KY kids. It is a great way for the UK coaches to invite 150 kids in and evaluate them. And the kids get to go back and say they went to the UK "elite" camp. Technically I don't think it is an elite camp. But still a good chance for a lot of local talent to get seen by UK, and for them to play against some of the higher national talent. Overall a good think for UK and the high school kids.

June 10, 200818 yr Scott Co. has 7 kids at this camp. I rest my case about them having top 10 type talent in the nation next year.
June 10, 200818 yr Scott definitely has the talent, but can they win it all? Probably, but then I thought Big Brown was a lock on Saturday.

And Jenkins went for 34 against a team that had 2 or 3 of those Scott County kids in an overtime win. They've got talent, just need to gel before being one of the country's best.

Way more positives than negatives in this set up. For one it gets underclassman on campus unofficially, particularly those from out of state. It allows the staff to see these kids...plus many of the top players at the camp such as a Dom Ferguson play pickup with the regular players at night time. This primarily is the sole reason for such a camp. In the meantime you can develop relationships with the high school coaches away from the AAU scene, particularly those that are in state. Many of the players there will not even get a sniff from UK, but they get exposure and an opportunity to play.
June 10, 200818 yr I was told that Jamel Riley played really well. Didn't really pry my source...do not know how the others did.

June 10, 200818 yr Interesting that team 9 has Matt Harrellson from St. Charles, MO. I'm assuming he's related to Josh, incoming transfer for Kentucky? Sounds like a cool camp and a great idea.
