According to Hal Lindsey, Islam is an inherently violent religion whose true practitioners are radical fundamentalists. Moderates, he explains, have not read the Koran very closely but once they do and began practicing the tenets of the religion, they become radical in their beliefs.

Lindsey was fired recently from TBN(Trinity Broadcasting Network) by Paul and Jan Crouch for being too pro-Israel and too harsh in his comments about Arabs and Muslims.Lindsey claims TBN and the Crouches tried to muzzle his views about Islam.

How do you weigh in on Islam? Do you believe Islam is a peaceful religion whose true practitioners are moderate in their beliefs or , like Lindsey, do you feel that Islam is inherently violent and really speaks to radical fundamentalists to accomplish its aims?

I believe it is a peaceful religion that has gotten a bad reputation because of the radical extremists.

I have concerns when the denominations of the religion are trying to kill each other.

Catholics...Protestants.... Northern Ireland?

They're back fighting???? I thought they finished that 15 years ago.

Any religion that say someone should be executed for leaving, or promises 99 virgins for killing infidels is violent in nature.

They will not stop until they rule the world.......

You knew my point, LBBC, that Christian groups have also fought and killed each other just as the Muslim groups are now. Christians have also resorted to killing each other in the name of their religion.

You are distorting Islamic beliefs - it is only 72 virgins. Careful, or you will end up on the wrong end of a fatwa.

You started the thread and picked the topic, and I am going to limit you to it. We are not going to turn this thread into an "oh yeah, well here's what Christians did" thread. LBBC was wise not to engage you.

I agree. I wanted this topic to focus on Islam, but its only a natural retort to point out that other religions besides Islam have engaged in bloody in-fighting in recent history. Thus one would have to have questions about other religions besides Islam if this were the only justification given for judging a particular religion as evil.

Why do I feel that line came from Star Wars?

So, you want us to judge Islam based upon the actions of other religions and not their own actions?

No, not at all. I was just pointing out that other religions have had some of the same problems.

I believe it is a peaceful religion that has gotten a bad reputation because of the radical extremists.

Same...can be said for all religions because they usually stem from one another and the one constant is "treat others as you would have them do treat you".

Unfortunately, too many followers of this particular religion seem to have a major axe to grind with followers of Christianity and that's where I have a problem.
