May 11, 200818 yr As far as I know, Gagne wasn't mentioned in the Mitchell Report. And if he wasn't, then fans like SVfan4life are presuming guilt over innocence. Just saying what everyone else believes, you're in the minority and you are off on this topic saying that he is like every other pitcher and didn't use steroids. He is an inconsistent pitcher, Was only great for 2 years then fell off the map, seems like steroid use to me.

I don't know what he did, and I don't care. Don't misrepresent what I say. Actually, Gagne was an elite closer for three years, before the injuries took over.
May 11, 200818 yr For a reliever the ability to recover quicker does make them a better pitcher. If the guy came come out of the bullpen and throw his hardest for several days in a row without having to be concerned about fatigue or loss of velocity when used multiple days in a row I would tend to think that makes them a better pitcher. Without the performance enhancer a pitcher loses something on their 2nd, 3rd or 4th day in a row if they go all out each trip. The report only has 2004 as a reference because that's when they could get documentation for it. Gagne was a suspected steroid user before that.At least one poster here links Gagne's loss of velocity to his past HGH use, or whatever he was doing. I say it's primarily due to injuries. I venture to say that has more to do with his current situation than anything else.
May 12, 200818 yr He never was a power pitcher anyway. Why the steroids accusations? I was at a game in St. Louis when Gagne was in his prime and he hit between 98-100 on several pitches in a row.
May 12, 200818 yr By that I meant that he was more known for his change in his elite years than his heat. He could reach high speeds, but he didnt have to in order to get people out.

May 12, 200818 yr Location isnt what it was... Location didn't matter much when he was hitting 100 at will...
May 12, 200818 yr Location didn't matter much when he was hitting 100 at will... Bull. That's why Kyle Farnsworth is so effective.

May 12, 200818 yr For a pitcher, location always matters ... Good lord. I guess I have to go slow. When you are throwing 98-100 whenever you want you don't have to be perfect with a change as long as you can repeat the arm angle and speed. He did both well, but he no doubt used the heat to set up everything. The dude was throwing pure gas over the save streak...

May 12, 200818 yr Thanks for enlightening us ... Location matters ... period. He's faced 76 batters and gotten to two strikes 47 times. Throwing 100 mph strikes matters more. End of discussion...
