I don't think McLean will start but he will get his share of varsity time. He has to with the lack of depth on Villa's roster. This will be his first year on the varsity level so he'll gain some valuable experience and contribute a bit.

My real question is why is this continuously a major surprise. The sports program at Villa is doing some pretty impressive things considering the school's size.

 

Look at the Baseball team in 06', the solidity in track and field, basketball last year. The typical success in golf and tennis.

Villa's teams are definitely seeing their fair share of some success. However, there usually isn't that much talk about them on this site until now.

 

Their girls basketball team has also done pretty well the past few years and will probably continue to get better throughout the next few. Most of their top scorers this year were sophomores.

 

Hopefully they can continue the success and the support in the stands as well as on this site and in the papers.

Now that school is in full swing, are there any new 7 foot freshmen walking that halls of Villa?

I knew you weren't saying anything negative toward the Byran kid, I was just seeking input from someone who seems to know D-III pretty well. Thanks for giving me just that. :thumb:

 

In an aside, I will say I've seen Bryan and Eastin both play on a very limited basis and I wouldn't put too much stock in who outscored whom last year. I thought Bryan did more things athletically than Eastin. Not a knock on Eastin, just my take last year.

 

No offense to either of the young men, but IMO neither of these two will be POY. Both were shut down in the important games againest bellevue. Romes is going to be the player to watch in D-3 hands down. Big, Strong, and very quick.

I think you're probably right about Romes winning POY, and it will be deserving. He's a very good player.

 

Seems the thread may be getting a bit off of Villa though, maybe we should start another thread about D-III, or get back to discussing Villa.

Williamson certainly has the skill to be a top 5 player in Div III if used properly and he maintains his focus..

My mistake thought he had graduated.

I'm not saying that Bryan is near POY or Mr. Basketball, but I also don't see anyone in their conference that's going to slow him down let alone stop him completely.

 

But from looking at the numbers from last year I didn't see any reason he couldn't have been POY in the conference.

Seems to me that is the key to this kid. His stats show up when he bust his tail all the time on the court because he can jump as well as most in the conference and has a solid offensive game that is boosted by offensive rebounding and hustle points. But sometimes last season it seemed he would take a few possesions off at a time. Could be a force on the defensive end too, but has stay motivated.
