No way Villa was the favorite last year... Beechwood was... Bellevue had a strong underrated senior class, no one expected Kessen to be as good as he ended up being for them after being primarily a spot shooter in years past...

Not doubting Bryan, but just off the top of my head... There was a lot said about the Pohlgeers kid from Beechwood last year, Young from Bellevue really contributed last season, and the other sophomore to make the DIII all conference team was Eastin from Dayton, who in their head to head matchup last season outscored Bryan...

 

I think Beechwood and Calvary will be fighting it out for the Div III Titile next year with Villa in the next group that should include themselves, Bellevue and my sleeper next year, Dayton. Under Coach Tom Dilts direction I like the young talent that the Greendevils have coming back next year.

I like Ludlow because while they lost a lot, they have Williamson coming back and they had one of if not the best JV team in the conference. I agree with you about Dayton because their sophomore class was so big and senior/junior classes so small last year that a lot of their talented younger guys got a lot of game experience....

Were you at the calvary game where the conferences "defensive player of the year", and two other calvary players were surrounding bryan on every out of bounds play? And if i'm not mistaken bryan ended up with about 20 pts that game still. Even st. henry's main focus was to "stop" bryan and they were unable to do that on 3 occations. Infact the numbers may increase for him considering there are about 30-40 shots a game opening up now from the seniors graduating.

 

i think for the most part villa will be completely different look to see alot of points in transition and alot quicker line up to do so, i think with the drive ability of bryan the sharp shooters of schuh and schroth will really be seen cause they can stroke it when given room. Look for every team they play against to be in foul trouble trying to "stop" bryan. But villa will still be top 2 in conference with barn burners with beechwood

And of those 30 to 40 shots a game opening up how many of them are you going to give Bryan? 20? That would give him usually around 35 to 45 shots a game if you keep the number of shots he took last year. He's a good player, but he isn't going to win the games by himself... I don't see him dropping 60 on anybody...

I knew you weren't saying anything negative toward the Byran kid, I was just seeking input from someone who seems to know D-III pretty well. Thanks for giving me just that. :thumb:

 

In an aside, I will say I've seen Bryan and Eastin both play on a very limited basis and I wouldn't put too much stock in who outscored whom last year. I thought Bryan did more things athletically than Eastin. Not a knock on Eastin, just my take last year.

Who finishes below them? Even with Love and their best senior class ever they didn't even finish 2nd in the conference.

 

 

I'm not sure they give out prizes for being the second best team in D-III, so who finished second matters..................not.

 

But to answer your question, that's easy, I'd start with Heritage and then look at Silver Grove. It'd be almost impossible for Villa to finish below both of them next season.

Actually, it is in question, did you watch Villa last season? Stephen Love was a nice player, but Bryan was undoubtedly the one who scared other teams and their focus. Especially, if you ask the bigger schools.

I agree with this statement as the smart/better teams focused on stopping Blake since he was the point guard and leader of the team. When Blake struggled, the team struggled and Blake's the kind of player who can carry a team when he's on. Love is an outstanding shooter but didn't necessarily mean more to the team as Blake could get to the basket on any single defensive player in the region. Blake can beat Silver Grove and Heritage by himself next year and that isn't a joke. He does have some flaws such as trying to do to much and turning the ball over but he will put Villa on his back next year for around a 4th place finish in conference. Don't forget that David Schuh and Ryan Schroth can shoot the 3 ball.. They just need to get a little bigger, stronger, and quicker.

Ludlow's JV team in the last 2 years have posted records of 18 and 4, 16 and 6. Do you find that carrying over to the next level in 08/09?

Most teams in D III use their younger players as Varsity so JV at the DIII level isn't really a big deal, but Beechwood went 14-0 in JV also.

45 shots a game, hope the kids arm doesn't fall off.

I can see that... I wasn't saying who I think is the best junior player in DIII but just don't think it can be determined yet. I will say this, I saw both of them last year and think they both showed that they had some trouble handling adversity. As long as they stay away from being the type that lose it at teammates etc. it could be fun watching them the next couple years in DIII because they both can play.

 

For whomever said that Bryan could've taken any defensive player in the region to the basket last year, JMO, but I think that is mistaken. While not many players had the footspeed and quickness to play 1 on 1 with him, quick guards that could match those attributes could slow him. I think this is why St. Henry had success, because they had a lot of speed. And just throwing this out because there was talk of "any defensive player in the region" etc.... No way Bryan would own Henderson to the basket. Maybe 2 guys did that all last season, McGraw and depending on who you are talking Miller... Bryan, while a really good player, isn't near that level...
