Villa Madonna is coming off a 17-12 season. What gets them to the top in the 9th region?

 

Transfers?

This is not a slap on Villa or any other smaller Class A school in the 9th region but I would suspect that realistic goals for them would be to win their division in the conference, a good run in the Class tourney (which they had this past year) and a shot at making a regional appearance. Schools the size of Villa simply aren't able to compete with any regularity with the Boones, Conners and NDAs in my opinion.

I agree, but I don't think that is limited to the 9th Region. I think most Class "A" Schools are looking to do that year in and year out and hope to one day make it to the All "A" State or perhaps even contend for a Regional Championship. Every team needs to set high goals for themsleves, but the goals are not the same for every school.

Villa has three good players. Point guard will be a big question. Stoll will neede to play well.

 

Villa will beat some good teams this season.

Schroer, Case, and Kreutzer all played great team ball last year which led to considerable success. Stoll could fit in nicely as well this year. Look for good things from this group.

Not to take anything away from NewCath, but lets remember that when you are comparing a NewCath to a Villa Madonna, NewCath has twice as many students as Villa.

 

Villa does extremely well not just in basketball but in all of its sports given that the high school only enrolls less than 200 total (about 80 girls).

Agree completely. I wasn't implying NewCath was in the same class, but sometimes I think smaller schools automatically think they can't compete with larger schools when actually they can, if they THINK they can. They can't compete year in and year out, but don't sell the smaller schools short. I think Villa could play with a number of larger schools.

Agree. Must think coaching and player development have played a part also. Good programs and coaches attract good players, and all of the above mentioned players are "technically" not from NewCath feeder schools, so there must have been something that attracted them to NCC.

Wrong. all of the above players are from NCC feeder schools. St. jOE IN cOLD sPRING SENDS AT LEAST 1/2 OF THEIR KIDS TO ncc.

Actually trainride, you are wrong. St. Joe's Cold Spring is NOT a feeder school for NCC; it is a feeder school for Brossart. It is in Brossart's district and has always been a feeder school for them. The students from St. Joe's who go to NCC are NOT in NCC's district but can attend NCC without any penalty because many years ago Brossart's administration decided not to charge students any penalties for going to NCC. It has seemed to backfire at this point because the cost for tuition now is the same whether they go to NCC or Brossart.

Thecnically you are correct.

 

my point is they are allowed to go to NCC just as they are allowed to go to Brossart.

 

There are no rules against this and St. Joe sends about 1/2 of their athletes to each school.
