Ramar Smith Leaving UT?

Featured Replies

They did not "screw up their lives". They got kicked out of school and embarassed.

They blew their first chance.

They are good athletes with talent and not just regular kids going to school.

Someone will take the chance on them, then if they do it again, they may screw up their lives. Regular students usually have one shot. They do it again, it's their fault.

Just glad that they won't be at UT anymore.

Regular students don't get drug tested every week or so.

Neither would have started on next years team. It will hurt depth, but with the play of Smith it has to get better. Crews can be replaced with Williams.

I don't like UT either, but its interesting you are celebrating 2 kids possibly screwing up their lives...

Both are going to be juniors which puts them at 20 or 21. What kids are you talking about? My 3 year old is a kid, these guys are young men.

No, they don't. But most kids also do not get the full ride that players of this caliber get, either. A lot of clean, sober, drug free regular students that abide by rules and laws would gladly fill a bottle weekly to get school paid for.

When they get in the real world and take real jobs they will get tested.

I still say they did NOT "Screw up their lives" as it so dramatically has been put. They messed up big time, but will get another chance. Most good athletes can get a second, third or fourth chance.

Getting kicked out of school and knowing you will land on your feet is another athletic perk that a regular student does not usually have. Say what you want, but this is not a big deal. It just keeps them from playing ball at UT and probably puts them on a smaller stage school.

On the same note, I do believe the same drug testing procedure may have saved one Chritopher Lofton's life, who was also a team member with these players. He was clean and drug free, like most other college players.

How many "regular" students could be walking around with this health problem without knowing? If you're not doing drugs, nothing to worry about, and in this instance may have been a blessing in disguise for the Lofton family. The same test that helped him put at least one other player off the team because he was breaking rules. I'm sure drug use and gambling were issues that were covered very many times with these now former players and they chose to ignore the rules and do what they want. They are adults, they knew the rules and now are paying the price. You cannot hold these kids' hands 24/7/365. Time to try to learn to be responsible.

They are not kids but they are not grown men either. I may not have done what they have done but I made mistakes at that age that I wouldn't make now.

If you think these guys are grown men, you are fooling yourself. Regardless, its all semantics. I still have to wonder about someone celebrating two people screwing up their lives because they play for the team down the road.

OK, last time I'll say it.

They screwed up but DID NOT "Screw Up Their Lives".

Screwing up your life is what you do when you go to jail, permanently injure yourself doing something stupid, have to deal with it continuously for the rest of said life, etc. and et al (Example #1: Bud Mackey).

These guys only got kicked out of school. They got themselves embarassed and learned a hard, cold lesson about life.

The 2nd chance is there waiting for them somewhere for next year.

They still have opportunities. They are still alive and healthy. They can still play ball and get their education paid for. They are not in jail. They are not permanently damaged. They are, however, paying the price for their actions. (Example #2: Desmond Allison.)

Explain to me how their lives are screwed up and how this is going to be a "Scarlet Letter" on them for life?

You can't because it is not 100% true.

Quit saying they "Screwed up their lives" and making it sound like it is permanent. You can say they screwed up for the present, but they will end up O.K.. They did royally screw up, but they still have their lives, carrers and opportunities waiting for them.

I am glad they are gone from UT. You got me.

If they had been crippled or killed, I would not celebrate.

The fact that they did this to themselves, well, everyone has an opinion on actions and responsibility for those actions.

They very well could have. Now they have pretty much zero chance of getting paid to play. Crews had more of a chance than Smith, even though it wasnt that great. They lose out on a first class education, no matter what you think about UT. They will likely end up at the NAIA, D2, etc. levels never to be heard from again. They could have done stuff in Knoxville after graduation with relative ease, but that is over now. Maybe they didn't screw up their lives, but they screwed up big time. They now have to take a longer more difficult path to prosperity. You still celebrated they screwed up. I dont know what to think about that...

Can you say HEADBAND!!!!!!

Think what you want.

I can live with it.

Free country and all that.

They still aren't "DOOMED" to Div. 2 or NAIA.

Over dramatic, Bellalumni40.

Carruth and Parker both had 2nd chances with very legitimate NCAA programs and screwed up again.

There are other "quality educations" out there. UT is good, but it's not like they are Harvard. It's not like the UT athletic program was burning up the academic world according to the NCAA progress reports released earlier. (I really don't think the players in question were all that concerned about academia at UT, anyway! JMO.)

Then again, apparently, if you go to a Div.2 school or NAIA you are "doomed" to burger flipping or riding a garbage truck for life, anyway.

IF they have the talent to make it, they'll make it to pay-for-play.

Scottie Pippen played lower division college ball and made it.

They'll be fine.

Sorry about being OK with them being sent away and upsetting you so much.

They'll keep playing somewhere if that's what they really want to do.

It will be OK.

(Also, the football players have the "path to prosperity" in Knoxville. Basketball's not that big there yet.)

You can defend yourself with long winded answers all you want, it doesn't explain that you are happy about somebody getting in trouble and kicked off the team and out of school, no matter where they go to school.

At the end of the day, it seems to be a simple concept. Party Coach runs party program. Shocker...

I didn't realize that was ever in doubt.

1.) At least you are taking time to read them to know they are "Long Winded".

2.) If you are reading them, based on your own standards, I can tell you attended a Division 1 school and can read them. Otherwise, an NAIA school or Division 2 school would not give you the desired skills set to accomplish this task.
