Not really a fair turn of events for Punk. Really a pretty crappy way to lose the belt, he didn't even get to compete in the scramble.

That stinks. What a joke!!! I don't see Punk getting it back (I wish he would) because he isn't the big name superstar that WWE wants as their champion. Look for Orton to regain the belt in the near future.

I wish I could have watched Unforgiven but I had to work a soccer doubleheader tonight.

 

I will say that I for one am glad that CM Punk is not the champ anymore. He is not championship strap material. He is not very good in the ring and his stick skills are not there. They need to make him a mid-card guy once again and have him polish up a lot of things......and then down the road, he could possibly be title material.

CM Punk....I'm not someone who is a huge CM Punk fan, I do think he has potential, and it was truly refreshing to see someone besides Batista, Cena, Orton, or Triple H as champion.

 

IMO, the WWE booked and promoted CM Punk completely wrong from day one.

 

First, they made Punk's win a gimmick. He won by cashing in at an opportune time and this did not help Punk gain any credibility as a top-carder.

 

Then, creative started booking him as a mid-carder rather than a champion. Punk's title matches (instead of being at the end of Raw) were held usually at the beginning or middle of Raw - this does not help legitimize Punk, and again, makes him look like a mid-carder.

 

Apart from that, Punk was given quite possibly the worst "top" talent to feud against, JBL. Throughout his title reign, it was JBL that interrupted and feuded with Punk. Sorry to all you JBL-lovers out there, but he is boring and awkward. The fans aren't into JBL and it's my opinion, that if Punk had feuded against someone more exciting, he would have gotten over better. Yes, Punk was given plenty of mic time, but too much of that time was shared with JBL putting everyone to sleep.

 

Then, there is the ultimate slap in the face to Punk. His title is lost in a match that he didn't even participate in. This way my biggest beef with Unforgiven. Halfway through the PPV, Punk was attacked by Orton, Rhodes, Dibiase, Jr., and Afa, Jr. - they then turned around and said that Punk would be unable to compete for his belt in the scramble and Adamle claimed that he would pick the best replacement for the match.

 

So what happens? Jericho, fresh off his match with HBK, where HBK beat the crap out of him, comes in and wins the belt. Jericho took a much worse beating, but he was still well enough to come in and win the belt? But Punk, who took 1/4 of the beating that Jericho took couldn't compete? This makes Punk look even less credible and I think it's crappy that Punk wasn't even given the chance to retain his title.

 

IMO, it's wasn't Punk that made his run as champ. bad, it was the WWE. They did nothing to help legitimize Punk as champion, and once they gave him the belt, it's like they did a 180 and realized they didn't want Punk in that position.

 

It will be interesting to see what WWE does tomorrow night on Raw. Whether Punk will have a rematch for the belt of if he'll even be there at all.

 

 

On a side note - where the heck is Umaga? I haven't been watching Smackdown as often, but it feels like he's been virtually ignored since the draft.

I see this as a way for Punk to get into more of a main event role by fueding with Orton and Jericho. Orton's not ready to come back and with Jericho and HBK working together there is no one else left for Punk to fued with for the title because Batista, JBL, and Kane have lost title matches all summer. I see Punk getting the title back when Orton returns and fueding with Orton when he makes a return to the ring. Lets let the storyline playout some before we judge the move.
