I'd say Pittman and R. Johnson of Holmes are both top 5 players for their class. Johnson is already being courted by Georgetown and based on the performance Pittman had in the state tournament I'm sure Henley will be getting calls about him as well.

 

Scott Co has Guyn, Euton, and Jackson who are arguably the top 3-5 players for their class.. IMO the top 5 players in the 2010 class come from SC and Holmes.

 

There are alot of good juniors to be but these 5 stick out the most to me.

 

What about Cosby from Manual? Watts from McCreary, Sewell from Trinity? Richards? I'm sure I'm missing a few others that you could make a strong argument for being top 5 in 2010 class. I'd say that Pittman shows top 10 potential. I think Rico could be more of a legitimate top 5 player at this point than Pittman, but it's all very subjective. The 2010 class is overall stronger than the 2009 class statewide.

I agree. It's tough to really gauge how good of an offensive player he is though considering he wasn't much of an offensive option this past year because of the other players surrounding him. (Henderson, Pittman, Clark, Avery, R. Johnson) His offense wasn't needed so he did all the dirty work. (rebounding and playing solid defense)

 

This upcoming season for JJ will give a lot of us a much better idea of just how good he really is.

 

Agree. It will be hard for all of SCs and Holmes players to stand out when they each will have several exceptional players.

Gelawn will have to improve a LOT, before he can get a scholarship to a high major like UK. Right now, I would say possibly a mid-major team like Xavier or Butler.

 

What planet are you on gswilder. Xavier and Butler are both better programs than UK right now. If they are recruiting him them Uk better be recruiting him. This Mid-Major & High Major is a bunch of crap. I guess Stephen Curry from Davidson could not play for Uk either because Davidson is not listed as a high major.

Nick Noble from Owsley should be a very good player over the next few years. This kid has to sit out his 10th grade year due to a transfer but he has the talent to make up for it.

Guyan from Scott Co. is a good player. I saw him play several times last season. He was by no means in my opinion dominant. I know he is only a sophomore and has room for improvement.

 

Last weekend I was in attendance at the King James classic in Akron watching the 17U games. There were something like 156 17U teams from all over that competed. From what I witnessed there were many many kids playing that were as good or better than Gelawn.

 

Again, I'm not knocking Guyan as he is good with upside, but when you attend an event like that it opens your eyes to the quantity of talent that is out there.

Aaron Watts has to factor into this. He is a tremendous athlete with very good skills.

Aaron Cosby from J-town is for sure a top player. He has been ranked top 3 or 4 in every poll and is currently #70 in the nation according to Hoopscoop.

But apparently the Jeffersontown High School junior-to-be has looked sensational on the AAU circuit. Cosby, who sat out last season after transferring from Manual, is playing for the Kentucky HoopStars and had a monster showing at the King James event in Akron, Ohio.

 

Cosby helped the HoopStars to a 3-2 mark. His best game came on Saturday when he netted 41 points against the Louis Williams Elite team and followed that up with games of 25 and 26 points.

 

"I just worked out as much as I could (during his time off)," Cosby said. "I had a personal trainer at Hoops and worked out almost every day. I felt better than where I was (before the transfer) this weekend. Once I got comfortable, I felt my game coming back."

 

It was good timing for his return.

 

Cosby just last week re-opened his recruiting process. The Class of 2010 guard had committed to UMass but is now looking around. He said Mississippi State, Minnesota, South Carolina and Miami (Ohio) are among the schools showing interest.

 

But he also noted that Auburn and Mississippi were among the schools watching this weekend and "wanted to know more about me."

 

Another weekend like that and Cosby will be fielding even more schools.

Elijah Pittman, Ricardo Johnson, JJ Johnson from Holmes sould be near the top of the list.

Agree! I know that one major school has contacted him and will be watching his development over the next 2 yrs and have heard a rumors of a couple of more high level schools inquiring about him.

The Wilson kid from Clay Co. (6'2 guard) is a good player also from the mountains. I think he will be in the 2010 class.

Yea, they are a lot of coaches coming to Scott County open gym to watch the "KY All Star Team". But not just to recruit Gelawn. Scott has a lot of very good D1 prospects. Everything doesn't revolve around 1 player. It's a team game. Some players tend to forget that.

 

I love it when KY kids do well and get a chance to further their careers. If they can use their basketball skills to get a good education, that is most important. The chances of any one particular high school player, ever making a living at basketball is very very small. I forgot the exact stat, but it is 1 of out every 3000 college players ever make it to the NBA. So think what the odds are of a high school player making it. Probably 1 in 30,000.

 

Regarding comments about Xavier/Butler being better school choice that UK. Come on! UK has been consistently at the top of the basketball world for 60 years. Along with Kansas, NC, Duke, Indiana, and UCLA. Yes the Xavier/Butler's of the world have good years. But over time, it is the "big boys" who get the to final four and win it again and again. UK may have been down some the last year, but look at what Billy G is doing recruiting wise, just this week. He has gotten some pretty big commitments. The 2010 UK class is already about filled up. And today they get a verbal from a 2012 (8th grader).
