Top Freshman In NKY

Featured Replies

Zeke was held back. There is a kid from St. Joe's, Connor Cleves, who is very athletic. Also Tommy Arnzen from St. Pius.

Probably the two best I saw were Zane McCreary and Cooper Downs. Those two will both be at Boone next year. Another player who is starting to look good is JR Doss. His 8th grade year was his first year of organized basketball. He is 6'4 and athletic. He has been playing this summer with some high school kids and is starting to look really good. He will join McCreary and Downs at Boone.

Do you mean McQueary? As in coach McQuearys son?

Yes that's him. Sorry spelled the name wrong. He is a big body and can shoot from anywhere.

Junior Doss will be solid at Boone next year. He wont get much jv time beacause of the sophomores Crabtree and Brown. I've never seen a player develop so much so fast. He has a load of potential and if he keeps working could be one of the top 10 freshman in NKY next year

I think Parker Stansberry is one of the top 8th grade players in NKY. (He has a late birthday and was never held back). I believe he will be going to Dixie.

I don't know much about the guys being mentioned, but Thomas Rogg led his eighth grade team to an undefeated record in DIII middle school league last season while also seeing significant time in the JV games and some Varsity spot duty. He'll see a lot of PT for Dayton this season. A big kid named Jordan Smith also was on that team and with a little more footwork and strength could see some varsity time next year with his tall frame and soft shooting touch...

Must be Zeke's buddy posting on here.

His response to me above further exemplified his case for Zeke playing up next year which is fine but I think we get his take at this point.

Dixie may need him next year as they dont have much coming back to they?

There is a big difference from playing 8th graders and Varsity basketball players, also I've seen Pike's AAU team and I wasn't impressed.

He has improved a lot, and will continue to do so. He is playing on a select team with several JV/Varsity players (mostly from Holmes/Boone) which has helped him tremendously. It's one thing to be able to play with kids your own age, but it's something different to play with/against kids with Varsity experience. He is also getting some individual workouts in and when summer gets here he will increase that. Probably the best thing about him is that he is a great kid.

The rich keep getting richer at Cov Cath, two 8th graders transferring from Villa that will make an impact down the road - Derek Phelps (6'4" and growing) and Grant Guess. Grant had a knee injury and did not play this year, but is a very strong basketball player and is a gym rat. In four years, these two start at Cov Cath barring injuries. Another transfer that could be a good one is Seattle Stein, but may be giving up basketball to focus on Baseball and Golf.

Do you really "transfer" from 8th grade in to high school?

Don't high schools have feeder schools? If you don't go to the high school that your middle school is a feeder to then I guess it would be considered a transfer, sot of.

It may not officially be considered a "transfer" but what a shame for Villa to put time and future planning into these kids and they pull out

and change schools.

This has happened to Villa and other Schools in the past. This will continue to happen, There is no fair solution to it.

Parents have the right to send their kids to their school of choice.

Just remember OFTEN these kids end up right back where they started.

A kid has a right to switch to a team that will win, why would you want to stay and lose? As long as the kid doesn't play varsity

Like I said, whatever the reason, at the time it is a parental decision. Sometimes things do not work out the way you hope they would, and the kid ends up right back where they started. Those that end up back are OFTEN the kids who do not play varsity.

True, there isn't a way to prevent this either.
