A kid has a right to switch to a team that will win, why would you want to stay and lose? As long as the kid doesn't play varsity

We could debate for quite a while as to why a player would stay at a smaller school rather than go to a bigger school like Cov Cath. I have heard from at least one AAU coach explaining to a player that high school basketball is about getting touches. He went on to say that if you can play 4 years at Varsity level for a small school, that is much more important than playing maybe 1 year, half time, at varsity at a big school. He believes that you earn scholarships to college in AAU basketball and high school just helps keep your skills fresh; it is about getting better. I don't know if that is true or not, but that was his opinion. Look at Arrez Henderson. I believe his opportunity at LA Tech was because of his high school career, but I may be wrong about that. Debate between Big Schools and Small Schools could take on a life of its own.

While I agree kids who go to smaller schools find it harder to get a scholarship because of the lack of SOS their school plays, if you're good enough a coach will find you. AAU is the easiest way to get noticed considering all of the big tournaments are swarming with college scouts.

 

As far as Henderson goes, he got much of his recognition from the performances he had his junior and senior years at the state tournament. Not the AAU circuit.

At some places the middle school and high school may well be the same thing, especially when they're in the same building or on the same campus... Especially in small schools...

The rich keep getting richer at Cov Cath, two 8th graders transferring from Villa that will make an impact down the road - Derek Phelps (6'4" and growing) and Grant Guess. Grant had a knee injury and did not play this year, but is a very strong basketball player and is a gym rat. In four years, these two start at Cov Cath barring injuries. Another transfer that could be a good one is Seattle Stein, but may be giving up basketball to focus on Baseball and Golf.

 

Wow, that is a rather unusual name. ON the two kids who went to Villa and are supposedly going to CCH, nothing wrong with that and certainly nothing illegal about it. Just tough break for an up and coming program in Villa.

Not too sure of his name but I believe Holmes has a 6'5-6'6 freshman to be who was pretty impressive against Highlands this year. Maybe one of the Holmes posters can help me out with his name and a little info on him?

If it was the school that I had grown up playing for and watching their higher level teams then I would do what they asked of me, and feel a responsibility to better the program.

 

I don't know these kids stories, so if they were the kind that were bouncin' around from school to school in grade school and just decided that VMA was a nice middle school then I completely understand. However, if they decided that once they got into middle school that it might be a little harder to compete and then decided to switch schools, I don't agree with it and I wouldn't do it. Not saying that it is wrong or illegal. But I personally don't like it and wouldn't do it... JMO...

Seattle had a brother graduate last year from CCH, Skylar or Skyler. So, wasn't a big surprise that he followed his brother. BTW, he was a regular on the varsity golf team and contributed fairly well on the varsity baseball team this year as an 8th grader. The rules are changing in 2008/2009. 8th graders who play varsity for a high school are ineligable to play a sport for another high school as a 9th grader. This rule goes into affect next year.

He has improved a lot, and will continue to do so. He is playing on a select team with several JV/Varsity players (mostly from Holmes/Boone) which has helped him tremendously. It's one thing to be able to play with kids your own age, but it's something different to play with/against kids with Varsity experience. He is also getting some individual workouts in and when summer gets here he will increase that. Probably the best thing about him is that he is a great kid.

 

 

I agree I've been playing with him all summer and I think if his work ethic continues to improve he'll be a nice addition for Boone. I also think the intimidation factor is kind of scaring him playing with the older kids this summer, but all in all it will only help.

Kavon Arnold is about 6'4 6'5. He's tall and lengthy, he can spot up on a big man or post up an undersized guard. the future of nky basketball.

Arnold is a sophomore to be. I'm referring to a kid who played as an 8th grader last year. He was around 6'5 and I saw him against Highlands Middle School and was pretty impressed with him.

 

I already know about Arnold. Very talented kid for only being a freshman this past year. Would have seen more of him but he injured his foot toward the end of the season and was in a boot.

You could be referring to Herdon. He is a freshman to be. Not sure of his first name, I think its Zion or Ziere, something like that. He is the younger brother of Jaydale Herndon who played JV for Holmes this past year.

If he is the kid who is like 6'5/6'6 then you're probably right.

 

I'm guessing he got the good genes considering Jaydale is only around 5'9.
