April 27, 200818 yr Figured I would start this thread and see what people think about there draft so far through 2 rounds. I would give them a "C" on college accomplishments and ability. After reading things on both players I would give them an "A" on charater and work ethic. I think this draft may stem from all of the character problems the Bengals have faced in the past. Both guys are hard workers which is a major plus and hopefully will help change the atmosphere that has been develeped in Cincy. Overall through 2 rounds I give them a "B-".
April 27, 200818 yr It never seems like the Bengals have a definitive plan or vision for the future. We kind of just take what we can get, pick whoever, no real direction. I wish we could make a move like Jacksonville (even though they are criticized) they had a guy that they wanted and they went and got him.
April 27, 200818 yr I thought they got a great 1st pick. Solid player and solid person. He should be around for along time as a contirbutor which is what you hope for in a pick at #9. DT would have been nice but I didn't want them to trade the farm for it unless it was Dorsey + still I hate giving up too many picks. The WR was a big letdown right now. I know why they did it. He can scoot, he is a HIGH CHARACTER guy (not talking HIGH like the other picks in the past) and they have made a living off of WR's that flew under the radar. I'm not totally down on the Bengals. My issue right now is if they were going to take him at WR then why the heck not trade back if that was their guy. Their were much bigger saught after players that they could have moved back. They then get their guy + some. They just seem too never make moves that smart. I think they have to go after: Dline, Oline, Safety, TE, RB and another WR from here on out (no order). They've got a ton of picks left so the jury is still out on them IMO.
April 27, 200818 yr I think they should of went Jackson from Cal, we could use a slot reciever, and a kick returner. He would of filled both needs.
April 27, 200818 yr I agree with Stick A real good 1st pick, but the second pick sours the over all taste. The Bengals needed help on the DL and everyone knew that New Orleans wanted one of the top two tackles and was trying to move up to get one. If the Bengals would have got Ellis and higher rated player in the 2nd, I think the Bengal fans would have a lot more to smile about.
April 27, 200818 yr I'll say this about the Bengals, I applaude them for taking two of the more well known character guys in the draft for early picks. They are in a tough spot because unlike a lot of teams it is tough for them to gamble on the players that might have a little bit of a ? in the character department. I still think they should have traded back if that is who they had to have.
April 27, 200818 yr Rivers B- Simpson C- Rivers could be a good pick but with Odell back linebacker was no longer the sense or urgency.. which is a miracle for the Bengals. We needed a DT. We have tried twice (in the off seaso) to get a DT and whiffed, then watched N.O. skip ahead of us (when we had 9 picks left) to get a very good one. Thought the Steelers and Ravens did better and Cleveland with their off season did better.
April 27, 200818 yr Rivers could be a good pick but with Odell back linebacker was no longer the sense or urgency.. OLB was indeed an urgent need. Brooks and Thurman are both MLBs, and outside they have Jones and Schlagel. That says it all. Bring on the 3-4...
April 27, 200818 yr OLB was indeed an urgent need. Brooks and Thurman are both MLBs, and outside they have Jones and Schlagel. That says it all. Bring on the 3-4... DT was more of an urgent need in my opinion
April 27, 200818 yr DT was more of an urgent need in my opinion I don't disagree. But OLB was indeed a big need...
April 27, 200818 yr Your thoughts on Simpson? IMO I think it is a reach for where the Bengals were picking and what was still on the board.
April 27, 200818 yr I thought they should have used some of their extra picks to move up and get Ellis like the Saints did. They were the more aggresive, and they got the better player.
