Campbell County's football field.... Wow!

Featured Replies

I attended a track meet at Campbell County last Saturday... the field appeared to be in very bad condition. Many remarked on the condition of the field. If it were not for the weeds - there would not be a green blade on the gridiron. The yard lines had deep ruts from the band practicing on the field. I saw patches of black rubber near mid-field. Any plans on the board for improvements? Brossart playing in Newport for their 2008 campaign?

Campbell County has one of the worst fields around. It has been that way for some time now. As for the color, I thought they had bermuda, which is brown most of the year.

The field will look fine in about three to four weeks, even though it might appear to be a desert right now.. Also since the crumb rubber was added, injuries have been down.

Brossart football who knows where they will be playing, but I bet it will not be a the Pyramid.

They have had a bad field but once the Bermuda grows in it will be nice until they start playing on it again.

Why do so many schools continue to plant bermuda? I can understand that it will fill in well while it is growing hardily, but is it even recommended in the zones it is being planted. Perhaps if global warming would only speed up.

I'm interested in the product Scott's is advertising that produces side shoots and stays green most of the year round. I'm more curious on how it will work in my lawn than as a field grass, but it could be a possibility for athletic complexes in this area.

Lets be blunt. When was the last time Campbell County did something right?

Within 10 years every field in NKY that has varsity football will be artificial turf.

You say "lets" as if we are all agreeing with you! What a ridiculous, misinformed, and unfair statement. What rock have you been hiding under for the past 4 or 5 years?

Concerning the field, this will be Year #3 I believe for the bermuda turf. It is way to early to evaluate the condition of this field. The CC grounds crew will take great pride in getting the field ready for the start of the season. The condition of the field last year was the best it's been in the past 20+ years. The crumb rubber has provided a softer landing base and IMO has cut down on player injuries. As I recall, there is 20,000 lbs. of this product on the playing surface.

Sharon Alexandria is in charge of how the field has been taken care of for years. They have put a ton of money into that field in the last 5 years.

1. First paying alot to get it back to playable and safe 5 years ago.

2. Then The rubber tire mulch that was not taken care of properly. They had to cancel games on the field because of a mold (fungus) problems. They canceled all games but Varsity games and did not tell anyone about the dangers of playing there.

3. Last year she put more money to get it right.

4. who knows what is next.

Turf would have been cheaper by now.

That didn't work either.

This field is used 25 times a year, tops. No soccer, Just Middle School,Freshman, Jv, Varsity. Red Devils have used it 6 times in 5 years.

The results speak for themself.

I will note that I am biased because she wanted to charge the Red Devils a youth football program that has been using the field for 49 years $1,500.00 a game to fix her mistakes.

More Campbell County Board of Education mismanagement.

Tax money wasted, wasted, wasted.

Only Groundskeeper Bill Murray from Caddyshack can fix this comedy of errors.

Your comments are mostly unfounded however I do agree that field maintenance is costly (for any non-synthetic turf).

Fungus problems? Not aware of this issue or any games that were cancelled. What games were cancelled?

This field is used far more than 25 times per year. On average, the varsity, JV, freshmen, and middle school will play 18-20 games in total. Throw in the Jr. Football League @ 6 games per week x 8 weeks = 48 more games. Finally, the CC Band hosts the annual marching band festival with 20 or more bands stomping on the field and you get a surface that is maximized on usage.

We can agree that the Red Devil $ figure to use the field is out of line IMO.

Oh, and her name is Sharon Alexander.

Not sure I would need to be hiding under a rock since whenever there is an issue with Campbell County Schools it involves a school board meeting held in a gynasium style setting.

I may not know exact time span and amounts spent on field.

But how should I know what she is doing when even she doesn't know what she is doing.

There was a Fungus problem. There were allot of games (we were one of these games) That was cancelled because of this problem.

After being priced out of using field, I do not have a dog in the fight.

My point is The school board continues to be a mess.

I hope for the kids who do play on the field, get a field that is playable.

Their tax dollars deserve it.

Turf is nice, but I guess I am old school. I love the grass! Its like in the NFL, get rid of the domes and play outside baby!

But you want to keep barking!

I guess your uniformed position includes knowing all about the field work being done at Crossroads Elementary and the plan to put a field at Reiley?

Could it be you are a little upset with the football youth league that has grown by huge numbers and Red Devils does not have a complete corner on the market?

No matter what is done, I suspect you will find complaint with. Also, need to learn the costs of things, the field costs are nothing compared to turf. There are some in the leadership of the school that will do turf right now. Are you calling those people a mess too?

Tax dollars when teachers may have to be cut. Glad to know where your priorities are!
