Track the Cubs (week 4)

It was written before he blew the save. And I still stand by the comment. Blowing saves in Colorado isn't exactly rare.

Wood is still a solid contributer, taking the same path as Smoltz and Isringhausen.

To me, Prior is the biggest disappointment in the last 20 years. It's not as much that he was hurt as much as he was a soft as baby skin. He refused to pitch through any pain and shut down too quickly. To me, Kevin Orie, Rueben Quevedo, and Bobby Hill were bigger disappointments than Patterson.

Wood has managed to pitch a total of 121 Innings since 2005. He has a career record of 73-57 in 10 seasons, never winning more than 14. He has also topped 200 innings only twice. He may end up being a servicable reliever but to compare him to Smotlz is laughable. Even the Isringhausen comparison isn't true because Izzy was only 26 and had only started 52 games when he was switched.

While you're talking about Cubs washouts you forgot Jerome Walton, Dwight Smith, Shawn Boskie and Mike Harkey.

Cubs manage to get another clutch hit in the 10th to take the lead once again.

I believe it was the first run Woody had given up since April 9th. Only his 2nd blown save.

I won't panic til he gets about 5 blown saves, especially if that happens before the All Star break.

Speaking of which - I look for Eric Gagne to get sent to the minor leagues soon. He has blown many saves already.

I comparing him in the role of injured starter turned reliever. And 16 games over .500 makes him a solid contributor in my eyes. And again. I said he was STILL a contributor. I'm not bringing up what he has done in the past. While the overall body of work hasn't been great due to injury, the Cubs are getting more out of him than they are Prior aren't they??

And Patterson strikes out to end the inning.

If an average of 7-5 per season out of a player that was being measured for a Cooperstown bust is considered a solid contributor then yeah, he's been awesome. :thumb:

I'm shocked the Brewers took him at all.

They wouldn't pay Coco 12 Mil but payed that clown 10.

Gagne makes 10 mil and has 4 blown saves already.

Exactly and that move could end up costing the Brewers a chance at the division title. I know "Coco" had an ERA just over 90 on the road last year, but you have to make him your closer over GAGne.

Cubs win! Cubs win!

Wood get the win and Marmol gets the save.

You're averaging the full 10 seasons. He hasn't pitched in all 10 seasons because of injuries. If you look at his 162 game average when healthy, it averages out to 12-9, 227 Ks, and a 3.66 ERA. Ask any team if they would take a 12 game winner in their rotation or if they would consider them a solid contributor.
