DD that's a easy call to make! The young man steals and is safe, then you have Cody up with a man on second, and any kind of hit and he scores. If he gets caught stealing (as he did) you now have Cody up with no outs in the next inning. Thought it was the correct and smart call to make.

 

CovCath did the same thing to Cody last year at Beechwood as he was unhitable in CovCath first couple of bats, but when you throw as hard as Cody does, (and BTW he hasn't thrown that much this season) you do get tired. The key was making him throw a lot of pitches something CovCath didn't do against Ryle in either game. I personally think Cody would do much better for B coming into a game in the 5th inning and holding a lead for them, then starting.

 

Not so sure TOG....2 outs you're running on the ping so if Cody hits the ball in the gap you're scoring from first.

Yeah, but that's only if its a gap shot to the fence... if he's on second he scores on a solid base hit

Sounds like it was a great game, too bad I missed it...

 

It really wasn't a "great" game. Too many errors from two teams that are supposed to be better than that. I did, however enjoy the tension when CCH got close and then up by one, then BW tying it, etc. I guess I can say I enjoyed it because I no longer have a dog in the fight! Nerves are different when your own is on the mound or in the field!

The good:

 

Senior Dan Neihaus who came in to relieve Nutini and pitched 5 1/3 inning of 1 run baseball in a outstanding effort to allow CovCath to come back and beat Beechwood.

 

The bat of second baseman Brandon LaFever, who had some very clutch hits.

 

This victory after being down by a score of 6-1 in the top half of the third should propel CovCath to make the players believe they have a complete team, not just stars, as a lot of role players really helped to pull this game out.

 

Junior Pat Krumme a seldom used hitter who came to bat for Isler in the bottom of eight with the base loaded had the seeing eye base hit to win the game for the Colonels.

 

The CovCath bad:

 

In fact it wasn't a pretty game. Far too many dumb plays, and the last four runs scored by Beechwood should never have scored except by dumb mistakes by the CovCath fielders.

 

It however was an exciting game, that gave the crowd attending the game there money worth.

 

It was great seeing Chris and Joy Elliott again, and I wish only the best for them and Cody.

 

I dont understand why people dont give Brandon Lafever his due. The kid could play baseball from the time he put his glove on. People look at size and think because he isnt that big that he couldnt possibly be that good. Well this is just my opinion and as we all know ( everyone has one ). He is the best defensive player on the team. I dont understand why they dont play him at short and use Krumme at second. Krumme can hit the ball and just needs the opportunity to play. The kid hit .450 in summer ball in SWOL. Just one more observation, The Kentucky Kids were a good summer league team during their time, they had good coaching and great kids, however the other players have caught up with them now and if Cov Cath wants to seriously compete with the boys from Louisville and Lexington they need to give these other players a chance. If Brandon is half as good a player as Mike Lafever was then you have one heck of a ball player.:thumb:

Anything at SS would be better than what the Colonels have. Know the kid is doing his best at SS but he just doesn't have it. He would be an able 2nd baseman. I have seen PK play short and he has alot of range with his length. I dont think 2nd would be out of the question with some additional infield practice with Lefever. He also has a very strong accurate arm.:ylsuper:
