April 17, 200818 yr No. Cubs fans and Bengal fans have been apathetic for the past 20 years. Both have tasted recent success and expected to go farther in the playoffs than they have. Now, both are expecting to win because they have the talent on the field to. Eeerily similar IMO. The Cincinnati Bengals the last 5 seasons: 2007 7-9 2006 8-8 2005 11-5 2004 8-8 2003 8-8 The have ZERO playoff wins during this time. This is considered recent success? I guess for the Bengals franchise it is.

There were some people that somehow deluded themselves into thinking this guy was going to be a huge asset to this staff. He's basically the second coming of Eric Milton. Comparing Fogg and Milton is simply foolish. Milton was given #1 starter cash at the time. Fogg is pretty much making nothing in comparison. The only thing linking Fogg and Milton are the backs of their baseball card. One is a back of the rotation guy that set up his family for life. The other is a back of the rotation guy that thought he would get rich, and got the back end of the pay scale...

April 17, 200818 yr It equals as many championships as the Bengals. The Cubs have been losing longer but the two fan bases have been very parallel the past 3-5 seasons whether you want to admit it or not. All you have to do is scroll through the past threads.

I'm not a panic guy, but this early, there are still some things you can do, if not to help the club win as much to make things cosmetically better. * It's only three starts, but it's two terrible starts and one OK one. Josh Fogg, thanks, but you're back to the bullpen. What I do differently than maybe some others, although Matt Belisle has thrown well in the minors, I do activate him, but he is a long reliever, paired with Jeremy Affeldt until Affeldt is ready to go 6 innings. We've seen Belisle and I think he has talent, but I'd rather have the lefty Affeldt in there. * Todd Coffey, you know the way to Louisville. Work on things. It's not your arm, it's your head. While you've got the door open, take Jared Burton with you. Both of you have the stuff, but get the other things ready to be big league late-inning pitchers. Burton skipped some minor league lessons as a Rule V pick last season, he could use them. * To fill the spot of Affeldt in the bullpen, bring up Bill Bray. April 17, 200818 yr Also from CTR.... With a chance at the cycle, Jay Bruce was pinch-hit for in the seventh inning Wednesday night in Louisville. Bruce told the Courier-Journal's C.L. Brown that he was OK, but he jammed his right shoulder sliding back to first in the fifth inning. Bats manager Rick Sweet said he'd probably give him the day off tomorrow.

Except the small fact one had to stay long term and the other could be gone tomorrow. If Milton was signed for Fogg cash, he would have been a name most of the fan base had already forgotten. I see that future for Fogg right now...

April 17, 200818 yr You are assuming that Volquez and Cueto are going to be above average pitchers all year with their lack of experience. They've both looked good but they are playing in a bandbox of a park and when the weather gets warmer and some of those routine flies turn into homers it could get rough. GT and others have downplayed that effect but Cueto in spite of keeping the ball down has already allowed 4 homers in 19+ innings pitched. I don't think you can pencil them in for 35+ wins combined just yet. You could end up with one really good pitcher, 3 .500 pitchers and a void in the 5th spot. I see where you are coming from but that goes for opposing pitching too. Harrang is rock solid, Cueto+Volquez both have a ton of upside. It also gets tougher though when teams have seen you a few times. I still think those 3 will be OK. Arroyo has seen his best days IMO but it could be worse. They are struggling for a 5th guy. Maybe work a deal for a modest pitcher that might not be an ace but is for sure a solid 5. I still like the upside of the Reds although I feel like Griff is just taking up space. I like Dunn but can't stand his game. Edwin could be shipped out too and I wouldn't mind. I think getting swept by the Pirates, shalacked by the Cubs tonight has been really bad but even more frustration has been Chad Johnson being a putz! It's put a bad taste in everybody's mouth tonight around Cincy sports circles.
