Please name the multiple occaisions where NCAA violations have "possibly" occured. May have possibly occurred, that's a hoot.

 

I don't necessarily agree with Tressel's comments, because a commitment means nothing. Other schools can continue to pursue those players. However, if the kid is dead set on his decision then I would think a coach is wasting time. But, if a coach thinks a kid is unsure about a committ then by all means, go after him.

Not a homer, just an alum who is tired of his alma mater being trashed. Everything I know about Jim Tressel, tells me that he is a class guy and does things the right way. I would have loved for my son to play for JT.

 

But when you are one of the best year in and year out, you become a target. John Cooper used to recruit some of the worst characters in college football, but because he could not get OSU to the same level as JT nobody cared.

 

 

I still remember the quote of a Miami Hurricane fan before the NC game in 2002 as stated to a friend of mine, “If you guys should get lucky enough to win this game, be prepared to have the NCAA crawling up your backside"

 

Pretty prophetic, looking back at the majority of teams that have ever won a BCS championship, with in 2-3 years, they have come under some sort of NCAA investigation.

 

If Coach T is ever found GUILTY of any sort of violation then I will be the first to say. That he should be punished for his indiscretions, however this is America and contrary to popular opinion, he is innocent till proven guilty. But, for now accept that what he has done is build a pretty good football program into an even better program. JT understands the rich history and the tradition that Ohio State has developed as one of the top college football programs in the history of the game.

Found this interesting writting I thought I would share regarding the YSU days: These are very similar to the T Smith incident.

 

Jim Tressel arrived in Youngstown in 1986, the right man at the right time. As head coach at Youngstown State, he would go on to win four Division I-AA national titles between 1991 and '97, using mostly recruits from the now-devastated valley. But it wasn't just the success that endeared him to the locals. It was the image he projected that stood in contrast to that of depressed Youngstown.

 

 

Tressel looked like a minister in his trademark sweater vest and perfect haircut, and played the part, too, founding a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at the school. His athletes traveled in coat and tie and said "Yes, ma'am" to airplane flight attendants. He talked constantly about his players as family and about the team as a tool for community pride. As many as 20,000 fans a game filled the team's downtown stadium, cheering for the Penguins -- and for the revival of a valley's heart. "That's what kept that city alive, the university and the hospitals," said Ray Isaac, quarterback on Tressel's first title team. "We were the toast of the town. We had parades. We had it all."

 

 

Isaac had more. As the NCAA would later learn, Isaac was taking money from a booster from virtually the moment he joined the team in 1988. A few hundred here, a thousand or so there, including $3,800 during the 1991 championship season. In all, Isaac got about $10,000, plus the use of various cars, during his career. Ray "The Colonel" Isaac was Tressel's original Maurice Clarett, a Youngstown kid with quick feet and open palms who would lift his team, and coach, to new heights.

 

 

Isaac's benefactor was Michael "Mickey" Monus, chairman of the university's board of trustees and a local hero in his own right. As the dazzling, if disheveled CEO of the rapidly expanding Phar-Mor discount drug store chain, he created thousands of local jobs. Sam Walton of Wal-Mart once called Monus the only businessman he feared, for he couldn't understand how the Youngstown-based company could open so many stores (300 in 33 states) so quickly. Walton would get his answer with a subsequent federal conviction: Monus was cooking the books, Enron-style. He remains in prison on corporate fraud crimes, his empire in shambles.

 

 

Monus declined ESPN.com's request for an interview. And Youngstown State isn't eager to share the contents of its investigation into the Monus-Isaac matter. Twice, high-ranking officials at the university promised to make the school's internal report available to ESPN.com, only to later deny its release. A university lawyer said that Youngstown State considers the report as among Isaac's student records, which cannot be released under open-records law due to privacy restrictions.

 

 

But this much is certain, based on an ESPN review of legal documents and other sources: Monus was no stranger to Tressel. A huge sports fan, Monus could be found on the sidelines during Penguin games. He was on the university athletics committee that hired Tressel. And, according to court testimony that eventually brought the Isaac payments to light, it was Tressel who directed Isaac to Monus at the start of his freshman year.

Also, I believe that if anyone has talked to the parents of any of the Buckeye players that have actually talked to Tressel and have seen first hand how things are done at OSU they would understand that JT and the Ohio State Football Program is first class all the way and does things in the right way. Tressel cares about his players during and after their time at OSU.

What imo it all boils down to is that the Buckeyes have lined up and "beaten the teams that they were supposed to beat"and the ones that lined up across from them, others that are screaming about OSU have not done that - end of story...............Including that team up North that seems to have a hard time in accepting that fact .

Yes, OSU has lost to a couple of very good SEC teams in the NC games, the SEC imo is by far the best conference in the country. I don't see how anyone could argue that fact. The Buckeyes have been in 3 of the last 6 Championship games and that FACT is what some cannot handle, my answer to that is............."Deal With it"

As for RR, I will be the first to admit he drops more F bombs and pushes his players harder than any coach in football but is a winner and gets it done honestly.

:thumb: I agree if that is possible, imo the OSU - Michigan rivalry along with Bama-Auburn, Okla. - Texas and Ga. - Fla. are the biggest and best football rivalry's anywhere.

You could if you wanted I guess, that is your choice. Come to think of it, I do believe that the Buckeyes were at the top of the defensive ratings in D1 football in the last few years, so "defensive" may be a good term. I personally would call it.....Truthful. :thumb:

 

No one imo would be saying anything if Tressel had not claimed and proven ownership of the state of Michigan since he arrived.

I don't think that anyone is doubting that the SEC is the best conference in the country whether or not OSU or anyone else for that matter beats them in the Title game. I know that I am sure not. :thumb:

First off O$U has had great success since Tressel took over that is obvious. Coach Carr was a great man that ran a clean program but the fact is he got soft in his treatment towards the players and his ways. I thank him for all he did for the program but it was time to move on and let a new tradition start. It is funny how "school up north" ,meatchicken", and my favorite one I have heard "scUM" is OK, but if Michigan fans have the same fun and put "O$U", Tre$$el, or "The GA's" it is old. All I have done is post facts that Tre$$el is not the saint everyone is lead to believe and in my personal opinion he will have you guys on probation before he leaves. Yes I do not like O$U and it has nothing to do with the recent success they have had. It is how I have always been and will always be. I hated them just as much during the Cooper era. I am a Schembechler guy that bleeds the Maize and Blue. I am thrilled RR is in town with the in your face attitude Bo had. Ann Arbor is changing and it is a great day to be a Wolverine!
