CovCath 8 Hamilton Badin 3, or what a difference a day makes!

 

Will post the good, the bad and the boxscore, after I get a bite to.

Badin's a good team. Huge win for Cov Cath.

The CovCath good:

 

Nutini did an outstanding job today on the hill, against a big time GCL Central Division Team which was 4-1 going into this game at CovCath today.

 

Nutini stats Innings 6 1/3 Pitches 96 Walks 4 K 1 Hits 5 Runs 3 Earn Runs 3

 

Nutini did give up a HR to #35 Gartis which was a line shot that went over the fence at around the 345 mark. He did work his way out of the top of the 4th when Badin got the base loaded but was able to get the batter to hit a routine fly ball to RF for the last out in the inning. The only other runs that Nutini gave up was in the top of the seventh where he walked the first two batter than gave up a hit and that was it for the young junior. Great effort today.

 

Maile batting leadoff today, (Krumps twicked the batting order) with a two ball, one strike count took the Badin pitcher deep for a HR ( 365 - second of the season). The Badin CF quite literally moved when Maile came to bat in the 4th to within five or six feet in front of the CF wall. It was a good move, as Maile sent the second pitch to the wall. Maile also walked twice and scored three runs.

 

Isler had six (that right six) RBI's today. Four on a grand slam, his first HR of the year that cleared the fence at the 350 mark and two more on sac flies.

 

As impressive as the hits and outs were by Maile and Isler, Darner blast high off wall at the 380 mark (the deepest part of the field at CovCath) for a triple was very impressive.

Had a nice chat during the first inning or two with the head of The Northern KY Baseball Umpires Association. I told him his men in blue were doing a great job in the seven games that I had seen this year. I did make one request of him however, and that was to ask his men in Blue to give the count more often when there is no working score board. We are very lucky in NKy and the Ninth Region to have some very good umpires doing our baseball games, and I told him to thank his staff from all of us fans.

Glad to see the Ky team come out ahead in this one, even if it is Cov Cath!

Theoldguy played years and year ago and today only watches and reports what he sees, and has nothing but admiration for ALL these young Colonel players, coaches, and parents of the CovCath baseball team/family. I am just glad that they allow me along for the ride, and I do appreciate each and every one of them.

 

BTW, I purchased the first Hamburger of the 08 season from Mary today, and without a doubt, it is still the best Burger in NKy. If you go to a CovCath baseball game, you have to buy one of Mary's Hamburger, you will thank me later....

Gohs is probably the most underrated hitter in the region this year. IMO most underrated so far, but the season will unfold the true sleepers.

Maile's come up to the warning track about 4 times now as well.

By my count that would be 4 outs. Kid has great power but swing for fence doesn't always get the desired results.

Maile will also hit .450 this year, so I don't exactly think he's just popping out all the time.
