South Laurel RB Chad Merida

Featured Replies

From Rivals:

We have an early SPARQ Rating leader in the clubhouse in Columbus and quite possibly nationwide as well. Class of 2010 running back Chad Merida out of South Laurel High in Kentucky, a 5-10, 190 pounder, has posted a superb 131.28 SPARQ Rating, clocking a 4.58 40, a 4.03 shuttle, throwing the power ball 43'1" and posting a 36.5" vertical jump. These numbers are all unofficial of course, but certainly a great showing by the Bluegrass State RB and that would give him the #1 SPARQ Rating nationally if they hold up.

Congratulations to Chad Merida-

What was his bench numbers, I believe its 180 lbs, how many times?

Nike switched to a power ball toss this year for some reason, but Chad's Max is 285 lbs. and can bench 185 lbs. 24 times. He also boasts a 4.0 GPA.

I would have thought that someone who could do 185 lbs. 24 times would max more than 285? Is that number correct?

His Dad called me right after it was over while they were on their way home. He was one very EXCITED father, to say the least!

As of right now, the numbers are holding.

He beat the current (as of past sat.) national leader from Miami during the SPARQ this weekend. His Dad said going in they thought they had a good shot at top 5, but both were shocked with the end result.

They went to the meet in Georgia a couple of weeks ago, but it was cancelled.

Chad is solid in the classroom, too.

The internal drive is there and he will only get better. The kid is a warrior.

Look for big things from this kid.:thumb:

He is being used sparsely at RB by SL, though, as they insist to pass and really don't look to run like they should, IMO.

He can be a living terror on defense, also.

His father told me tonight that he just put up similar numbers in the Nashville combine this weekend (5 April) and was #1 coming out of it, also. Congrats again!

Very impressive numbers. I live in London and have never heard of the kid?? SL must have a ton of talent to not have him involved.

He's been a star at the MS and youth league level for a while. Also, he's a running back, and they can get overlooked in the SL passing system.

Is this the same kid that started for them last year, because I was not that impressed last year when I saw him

No ton of talent there.

They are trying to be a passing team. Very light on the run.

He never really has fit the system that SL has (or wants to have).

The kid would be a stud with a VERY recognizable name at Bell County, Corbin, KC, LC or elsewhere that knew he was a diamond in the rough at RB.

SL and it's system keep him hemmed up. When he is able to show his stuff, he is a terror. He was on Sports Overtime in highlights a few times last year. I'm kind of suprised that more people haven't heard of him.

Sounds like he need to come on over here to North or better yet go to Bell.

The kid could be a very, very good back if utilized right and in a system that fit better.

He was always the best player on the field in the little leauges, MS, and JV but never has got the chance to showcase himself in the current system.

He needed to be in a more run heavy offense than he has been.

He did not even start until the 8th grade-

The last time I looked there were not many Div I teams running the wishbone.

The best situation for him is to keep getting faster and stonger, and anyone who knows him (Not the people who think they do) knows he will continue to grow into a great football player because of his great work ethic and self-motivation.
