South Laurel RB Chad Merida

Not true, he started in the 6th grade. I have known this kid since he was 10. He is a work horse and no one has to tell him to workout or run he does this on his own.

I spent 20 years in the military with Chad's father and he is one of my best friends in this world. I have known Chad since he was born. He has always been driven, especially if he wants to succeed at something. He has gotten A LOT bigger and stronger since last season ended. As far as the wishbone, yes, few use it. On the same note, he will never be utilized properly in the SL system to his true strengths. He's a potentially great back in a bad system for him.

He did not even start until the 8th grade-

The last time I looked there were not many Div I teams running the wishbone.

The best situation for him is to keep getting faster and stonger, and anyone who knows him (Not the people who think they do) knows he will continue to grow into a great football player because of his great work ethic and self-motivation.

Running the wishbone or spread in high school has less importance than one would think as far as trying to get to the next level. Scouts are looking for motivation to get it done in the classroom first. Secondly, they look at the frame a kid has and his potential for gains. His speed and agility are very important. You must be able to run to play at the next level. Attitude also plays a key role. All this can be seen no matter if you run the single wing or the west coast. However, college to pro is a different story?

Just heard from Merida's dad tonight that he pulled a hamstring during a track meet the other night and will be sidelined/rehabbing the injury for 4 to 6 weeks, probably missing the next 2 scheduled combines.

Last time I looked also not many running the chuck and duck mumme system either. Ones that are sucessful anyway. :D:D

No matter the "system"...if you're a player, than your a player! Great numbers, young man! (especially in the classroom!) Someone will come calling...they have a way of finding talent if it's out there!! good luck rehabbing the hammy!

Kind of comical that someone from North Laurel and from Lynn Camp talking smack about wrong kind of offense. North should worry about winning maybe 2 games this year and just how many D1 running backs have the Camp produced over the years??? Might want to really think more about that God awful "P" word too next time someone puts 11 in the box. Lungbuster's post is spot on about this issue, and as 76 said, if you're a player then you're a player.

A player is a player. You are right, no matter where they are from.

BUT while we're at it, how much hardware does SL have to show for all their troubles using that awful "P" word????

Seems that a 5A school with the numbers they can draw from would be more tradition rich and successful in football than they are, but that's just IMO.

We've (LC) had success with our system and it is one we have stuck with. We'll win more than our share of games with it.

You'll have to get with the NL bunch on their situation with it all.

As far as systems, all I have said is that Merida does not fit the system that SL wants to use right now. When did I talk smack about the "wrong" offense, other than it did not fit the kid's real talent and HE would be a better fit in a run first offense?????? When was it I said it was the "WRONG" Offense overall? I just said it does not fit this player.

The wishbone crack earlier was about the only "smack" about an offense on this thread and the one about Mumme Ball, and I didn't make either one of those.

How much D1 talent does SL produce with their numbers and all the media attention they receive (IN FOOTBALL?)

LC produces players just as good as anything SL has produced over the years and with a lot less attention.

I know this discussion is on Chad Merida and from everything I have read or heard he is an amazing Athlete, but I too do not feel he will be used to his abilities in that system. This is all of course no offense to SL because they found a system that is sucessful to them. I do take offense to someone bring in Lynn Camp Student athletes into this thread by degrading them. I am amazaed at what Coach Mitchell and staff is able to do with only 24-28 kids coming out to play. I do think Lynn Camp has had some D1 talant that has been overlooked because of being a small school " over shadowed " by Corbin and Knox central who get more press by the papers, more praise from the town, and more favoratism by the school board.

Is this the same kid that started for them last year, because I was not that impressed last year when I saw him
I think folks would be impressed if he played in a ground game attack.:thumb:
