March 27, 200818 yr My son averages 40 miles a week and he will only train with Asics Trainers. My suggestion is to pay the extra dollars and buy a shoe that will give you the best support. It will be well worth the extra dollars to prevent any future injuries. Bad shoes are the reason I lost my college full ride to run Cross Country this past fall. Had to have some dead muscle removed from my shin, and I was never the same again. BUY GOOD SHOES. Saucony is a good one, along with Asics.
March 27, 200818 yr I have a 5k in a couple of weeks and need to get a new pair of running shoes. Any suggestions on good ones to try? I have been wearing Nike but the middle of the pack (price wise) aren't very good. I love the upper end shoes but don't really want to spend $100 or more on a shoes. I have tried New Balance and they ate my feet up. Some Addias aren't bad but they are kind of the same as Nike as far as the mid to low pack shoes. Any suggestions on a good pair that won't cost me an arm and a leg? Go to Metters and Miles in Newport or Florence and get fitted for a pair. Nike is a narrow shoe for running and not one that I would consider to be a top of the line running shoe. Great basketball but not running. I ran in Asics for 5 years and switched to Mizuno. Both are good running shoes but the shoe needs to be fitted to the person.
March 27, 200818 yr UKPat runs a lot and I believe he wears some New Balance. My ex was a big runner and she would only wear Asics. At the New Balance store on New Circle in Lexington they have more than just New Balance there now and are probably changing their name soon. Anyway, they will have a good selection as will John's Run/Walk Shop off Euclid Ave. in Lexington.

We've been going there for 7 years now, ever since my daughter started track and cross country. Right now she's wearing Asics.

You're right, John's owns the New Balance Store (where I coincidently work). We're a store very similar to Fleet Feet where we measure, watch the walk, look at wear pattern, figure out usage, etc. and then make a recommendation. We carry more than just NB shoes now and have some of the more popular styles from Asics, Brooks, Saucony and New Balance. I personally run in NB 1061s. Just bought two new pairs today, actually. Woodsrider, it's hard to make a determination without seeing your feet and wear pattern, but the most popular shoe in the industry right now is the Asics 2130. They run about $95. To be completely honest, you should probably expect to pay $90+ for a decent pair. The Brooks Addiction is also very popular and runs $95. In all seriousness, if you're near Lexington, come over to my store. I've worked there for 3 years so I sorta know what I'm talking about I'll get you fitted for some shoes, get you a couple pairs (free) of those socks bugatti was talking about. Probably even get you a discount.

March 28, 200818 yr I'm a rookie runner, so will someone please tell me what kind of socks I should be looking for? What are some advantages of a good pair of running socks over a normal pair of athletic socks?
March 28, 200818 yr I'm a rookie runner, so will someone please tell me what kind of socks I should be looking for. What are some advantages of a good pair of running socks over a normal pair of athletic socks? Look for socks that aren't cotton based. Cotton actually retains moisture very well (think how long it takes a t-shirt to dry once you've been thrown in a pool) and a lot of moisture on your feet during running isn't good. Instead, look for moisture wicking socks. These are usually a nylon/polyester blend. These help move the dampness away from your foot and keep the foot dry. These socks are usually pretty good about drying quickly, too.
March 28, 200818 yr You big know-it-all.:sssh: I haven't received any of these so-called free socks yet. I know one of our friends that received some as well.:irked: It's getting about time for a new pair of shoes as well.
