I am a Holmes Alumni, born and raised in Covington. I have a successful career and a wonderful family. I have a child who graduated with honors from Holmes and currently a junior in college, my other child is a student at Holmes in advanced classes and in the top 10 of the class. So, for those out there that like to bash "Covington" and bash "Holmes", I say more power to you. We have our issues, as do many other communities, but we have a school with wonderful programs and opportunities.

 

We are the State Runner Up and we are extremely proud of what our team has accomplished this year. They fought the fight but the better team won.

 

For those that bash our players, take a look at which player won the Sweet Sixteen "Best Sportsmanship".

 

Not sure of the accuracy, so if someone can confirm....I was told that Holmes had the best 2008 record with only 3 losses.

 

 

I surely hope you're not talking about Trevor Setty, for two reasons. One, this is the reason countless threads on the subject have already gotten closed. And two, because you can't pigeonhole a kid for one moment. He is a great kid, and a very good teammate. He leapt off the bench on the hardest foul I've seen while covering sports. Ethan King literally bounced after hitting the ground because he had a kid draped around his neck while at the highest point of his leap towards the basket.

 

For reference, I have never bashed your players, and I just wanted to defend one of mine. It was a lack of better judgment, and he wasn't leaving the bench to fight.

I was referring to the Holmes player, Breaon Avery, who won this award. Nothing negative was meant toward any other player or team.

Also Holmes did finish with the best record in the state at 34-3. Mason Co finished at 34-4.

 

Holmes's record being the best in the state just shows they did not play the competition that Lex Cath and Mason County did this year. Catholic and Mason both went to out of state tournaments and lost to good teams. I'm not taking away from Holmes's season but I don't understand how a better record means that much.

I was told that Moorman had no Division I offers. Supposedly, even Kentucky Wesleyan didn't seem to be very interested.

 

If Moorman wants to play on the Division I level, he would probably be better off going to a junior college program and proving himself on that level for one or two years.

 

Yeah, I didnt really expect any D1 offers for him, being a 6'5 or 6'6 post player. I didnt know how many smaller schools might be looking at him. I could see him doing very well at a lot of these good NAIA schools we have in KY. Georgetown started a kid that was 6'2 250 in the post. I could definitely see him on the D2 level as well. It would have to be the mid-majors if he had a good shot on the D1 level. Hard to believe nobody is really on him though with the way he looked at State.

I sincerely apologize. I read over your post too quickly, and saw the bolded part about the award winner. For those who don't know, Trevor Setty won a similar award on Saturday.

A quick question. I didn't think the MVP would be named to the all tourny team as well. It seems like Darius won the award twice. Have they always done this?

 

Ethan King did deserve the award, he was consistant the whole tourny, but I believe Setty did as well seeing that he was named MVP of the Elliott Co. game. Another interesting fact, was that in the 3 games prior to the finals. Mason Co had 3 players name MVP' s of games Setty, Miller & Middleton. Way to play like a team!

 

I for one would like to see the 10th region do something of this sort.
