9th region awards and POY

Featured Replies

POY isn't a team award. It's a player award. One player doesn't lose a game, the team does. POY or not, a kid can only do so much.

Wait, so now you are supporting Sorrell for POY? :fire:

Peter King had this insightful comment in SI......."MVP is about who impacts his team the most and leads his team to heights it wouldn't have reached without him."

See the quote below. Henderson had a much bigger impact than Sorrell did. Holmes would have been no where as good offensively or defensively if not for Henderson. He is relied on to score in key game situations (30 points against CCH...12 in OT) and also relied on to guard the other team's best player EVERY game (Held Sorrell to 6 points in their match up). The quote below tells the story of why Henderson was the 9th region POY and MVP.

Also Love led his team to a regional berth, something Beechwood failed to do. I can understand and sympathize that Beechwood had to play Holmes, but the fact still remains.

Are you trying to imply Hall is better than Love? If you think so, you're sadly mistaken. Love had 25 the first game and 21 the second game and finished the season with an average of 21.3 ppg for the year.

Love was held to single digits just once the whole year and that was in a 16 point W that he only took 5 shots in.

Not saying Love isn't great, so don't take it that way, but all of the Tigers stats could be higher. Only in 4 of the 14 conference games, I believe, were close and Shumate didn't run the score up on teams.

Schumate is a class act. But Wouldn't you rather see the Beechwood players put up big numbers against evenly matched teams rather than padding their stats against lesser competition?

The fact that Beechwood plays the best of the bigger schools should tie into the POY talks right?

You have to take in account that Villa is also a smaller school than Beechwood. They aren't going to be able to play against the big teams like Beechwood can.

Beechwood isn't that large, and its football program overshadows everything there. Look at the football field, then take into consideration the fact that they pass on districts because of their basketball facilities. Also the baseball field is so bad that Beechwood doesn't even use it.

That was their choice...

I didn't know that, thought it was a forced action.

Hall outplayed Love by scoring 30+ in both match-ups and could have scored as many as he wanted in the other 12 conference games but only got to play a quarter or to.

Hall, Romes, and Beuttels stats could have been un-heard of if they got to play a full 32 minutes every game.

They also all performed for the most part against the big-schools.

I know that Hall had around 35 against Conner and around 30 against Boone.

Beuttel also had a bunch against CCH.

Was that sarcastic? Because if it was, there is nobody that is going to feel bad for Beechwood being overshadowed by a football program and a bad gym if when they do things like do get an advantage by getting the districts they pass on them. Highlands has a bad gym and is overshadowed by a football program, but you don't see anyone on here complaining about that.

I don't care if you score 50. If your team loses, it really isn't that important. Last time I checked it was a team sport and a W was what mattered. Sure the points look nice but do you think those 3 would rather average 20 a game or make the region tournament?

I really don't see the argument. Love led his team to the region tournament and they would have never been there without him.

HHS has a new gym coming. FWIW

Where will they put that, due to lack of room on that corner?
