Eta Rho Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Arrez Henderson picked up some hardware last night at the Northern Kentucky Coaches Association banquet including the following awards: 9th Region POY Division I POY Division I Defensive POY NKAC Division 1 All Star Other Awards: Division I COY- David Henley (Holmes) Division II COY- Dave Faust (St Henry) Division III COY- Rick Schumate (Beechwood) DIvision II POY- Corey Sorrell (HC) Division III POY- Steven Love (Villa)

No stars, just a group of good players who worked well together. Villa was led by Love and Bryan. Love was the best Division III player which is why he got the award. It doesn't take having the best player in the region or your division to have success. Covcath is a prime example of this. I can't think of the last time they had a POY except maybe 04 with Votel or Nestheide (sp?) (could be wrong), and they always have success and are one of the best in the region simply because they have a lot of good players who work well together.

Villa was also awarded the Bob Miller Sportsmanship award. Which goes to the school that shows the best sportsmanship throughout they year and is voted on by 9th region officials.

Love was the best Division III player which is why he got the award. Don't get me wrong, the kid is good. But Villa also lost to Dayton, Bellevue, Calvary, and Beechwood twice. I can understand the Beechwood losses and Calvary was a pretty decent team, but Dayton and Bellevue? How does POY let his team fall to lesser competition?

Love was the best Division III player which is why he got the award. I looked up the stats from both of the Beechwood vs. Villa matchups. The Hall boy scored 30+ in both games to beat Villa. I just don't understand how going undefeated and scoring like this doesn't earn you a POY. Love is definitely an excellent player, but when they matched up, Hall had better performances.

One player doesn't lose a game, the team does. POY or not, a kid can only do so much. Also Love led his team to a regional berth, something Beechwood failed to do. Love had 25 the first game and 21 the second game and finished the season with an average of 21.3 ppg for the year. Love was held to single digits just once the whole year and that was in a 16 point W that he only took 5 shots in.
