Both of these young men are very impressive when it comes to lifting weights, what were their numbers for this meet?

Cissell tied his personal best for bench at 365 lbs and set a new PB for dead lift at 580 lbs. Phillips benched 340 and set a couple of state records for his weight class.

I read where Scotty Mayes from Trigg County won his weight class for a third straight year. Congrats to all and to Trigg County who won their second straight state title and ninth overall.

It seemed the number of schools was way down for this meet, is this true?? No Hopkinsville or Christian Co. I did not see Greenwood there either? What about Scott Co., were they there? Only about 3 schools from Jefferson Co. WHAT'S UP WITH THIS?

I was there and remember Cissell coming 2nd in his weight class to the kid from Trigg. That was the same kid that broke the state deadlift record. Either way VERY tough weight class.

Scott County took 7 kids with them. I was told by a kid from Scott that their coach said any kids that want to come can and if you don't want to come then don't. Pretty sad since they proably had some kids that could have competed very well.

How can someone be the outstanding lifter and not even win their weight class?

Cissell "totaled" 945 pounds to Trigg County's Billy Grubbs' total of 950 pounds. Cissell's body weight was less as his percentage (body weight into weight lifted) was 4.8964 and Grubbs' percentage was 4.8718. Cissel did come in second by 5 pounds but they use total percentage of body weight when deciding the "Best Overall" lifters. If Cissell had totaled 950 pounds also, he would have won the class (in a tie situation) due to his higher percentage. Either way both these lifters were outstanding as was Trinity's Tim Phillips' total of 905 pounds (165 pound class) for a 5.6281 percentage.

Yep! That's the way we do it in Kentucky for the past umpteen years. There have been efforts to change it to the way most other states compete (Bench, Squat and Power Clean) but it gets shot down. We know how much a football state we are, :rolleyes:how long did it take to start Spring Football?

Who decides the state championship format for weightlifting?

It depends on the host probably as much as anything. The teams who do not wish to compete under the existing format would just choose not to bring their teams. When proposed two years ago to change the format, several coaches from across the state did not think it was necessary to change it. Some of those schools (and coaches) were not even represented yesterday. So what would it matter to them now? I hope to see that wherever the State Meet is next year (Central Hardin is a great facility and host) maybe they just announce a differnet format and see who decides to come and who stays at home.
