I got a call today from a friend that was at the championship game and stay to hear who got on the the all tournament team and he told me that the only players that were there that got on the team were from Elliott and East. No other players from different teams were present to recieve their awards.

 

My question is:

 

Do players not recogize this as an acomplishment or dont care wether they made the team or not?

 

I have 2 brothers that made this team and they are proud of it and still have these trophies in their rooms....

 

Maybe times have changed...

I want everone to know that I am not talking about anyone particular....

 

I dont think that the Ashland players were there either...

I can understand the kids being upset about not winning the region tourney, I also understand it was a school night. It is however, in my eyes, a slight to the people putting on the tournament.

We thought that the players not being there to receive their award was like thumbing their noses at the tourney. Just My opinion.

I know if it were me & I wanted to win it & my team lost in the semi's it would have been very difficult to attend the finals no matter what award I may be getting.

Are the players or coaches notified ahead of time that they made the team? I honestly don't know. If they did know ahead of time I would make every effort to be there(even though it isn't required).

We are not notified ahead of time. In fact we didn't even know Matt won the Defensive Player Award. As for not attending, driving a hour in the hopes to win an award.. I don't know. Wasn't good enough to matter to me, so I can't speak from experience.

Some of you crack me up...

• Those who are probably don't have parents willing to let them drive an hour to Morehead, in the hopes that they won an award.
  
• Or have parents willing to burn gas at $3.25 a gallon 120 miles roundtrip, pay $14 at the gate for two tickets, and not get home until late on a school night on the assumption that their kid won an award.
  
• Some might say it's pretty arrogant to drive all the way to Morehead expecting an award.
  
• The humble guy doesn't expect it, and is gracious upon receiving it.
  

The only nose thumbing I see here if from adults without all the facts thumbing their nose at some awfully good kids.

What? You weren't able to come? Guess what? YOU made the all tournament team. You sure do have alot of nerve not coming to get your award. What? Let me guess, you had to work. School. What? You should have been there. No excuses.

 

 

Of course this is all junk I just typed here. I hope perhaps we can see how ridiculous it all is. But considering the angle, it was one of several threads designed to tear a kid down. Frankly, I'm wore out with all of that. But I somehow doubt it will stop.

I agree that it may be hard for some students to attend, but in respect to the people who put on the tournament i would at least try to attend. Maybe that is just me, and also if i recall in the earlier post it didnt look like anyone was thrashing kids for not attending? The initial question was why did they not attend!

I completely disagree. I think that it was a veiled shot. But again, it is what it is. And I'd like to congratulate all who made the team, whether they were in attendance or not.
