Maybe you cats need to explain to me whether this tournament is put on for the benefit of the kids who worked their butts off all season, (in some cases "seasons") to earn the right to attend and participate, or is it put on to benefit the adults who organize and manage it? (And are paid to do so.)

 

If it's for the adults, maybe they could notify the kids on teams not in the championship game that they had earned an All Tournament Team award the night before, so they could make a point of being in the house to receive it.

 

If a kid was actually sitting in the gym when his name was announced and refused to walk out on the floor to accept it, I can see how some might interpret this as "thumbing his nose" at the whole deal. Otherwise, the intent of this thread comes off as just another weak excuse to demean certain athletes unnecessarily.

Some of you crack me up...

• Many of these kids aren't driving yet.
  
• Those who are probably don't have parents willing to let them drive an hour to Morehead, in the hopes that they won an award.
  
• Or have parents willing to burn gas at $3.25 a gallon 120 miles roundtrip, pay $14 at the gate for two tickets, and not get home until late on a school night on the assumption that their kid won an award.
  
• Some might say it's pretty arrogant to drive all the way to Morehead expecting an award.
  
• The humble guy doesn't expect it, and is gracious upon receiving it.
  

The only nose thumbing I see here if from adults without all the facts thumbing their nose at some awfully good kids.

 

I agree with everything you said. I wouldn't want to be in the gym anymore anyways if my team had lost.

The All-Tourney team is not even voted on until the 3rd quarter of the championship game. There is no way to notify a person who made it prior to it being announced.

 

I can see both sides to this argument. I personally cannot imagine a fan of the game not being there for the finals, gas prices or not. Most coaches attend the championship game, I am sure a coach would be willing to take any player who he thought might have a chance to be honored. As far as the "school night" excuse (in a previous post), would the player miss the game if he were playing in it????? Of course, I am there regardless and I can't imagine not being there for the entire tourney, but that is me!

 

Congrats to those who did make the All-Tourney team, all were very deserving.
