Why Is Conference Tournament 1st and 2nd Round Better Than The NCAA 1st Round?

Featured Replies

The NCAA has parity but nothing like the parity that exist in leagues around the nation.

I disagree big time with this statement, I thought I had read the name of thread wrong. There's nothing like the 1st and 2nd round of the NCAA tournament.

Familiarity breeds contempt...............

But what's parity without meaning?

Without meaning? There are a ton of teams trying to play their way in or up the seed line.

Next weekend is for the casual fan. This weekend tells the story of how that puzzle was put together...

So you're telling me guys play with the same motivation this week (trying to better a seed) that they will play with next week (trying to keep a season alive)?

I mean, why not just say that the entire conference season is better than the first weekend? That set up the conference tournaments.

They play with motivation to win their tournament. Or they play to even make it in. If you don't see guys playing hard, you aren't watching...

Because that's more spread out and not played from noon past midnight... :p

They're playing hard, no doubt, but not with the same motivation that will be played with next week. This weekend its lose and regroup. Next it's lose and go home. For the fan, both serious and casual, nothing is better than the first and second rounds of the NCAAs.

I just don't understand how it can be said that its more entertaining to watch teams try to get into the tournament than watching the tournament itself.

There are a bunch of teams that lose and go home at this point...

Because at least half of the Thur/Fri games next week are total mismatches, and not much fun to watch...

Loved that Memphis/Tulsa game yesterday.

You should not be allowed to ever report on sports again for saying conference tournaments are better than the Big Dance.

You can definitely have more upsets in the first and second rounds of the conference tourneys, as seen already this week, than in the first round of the NCAA's. That's why conference tourneys are so great. The number one's and two's of the land aren't going down in the first round of the NCAA, most likely, but in their conference tourney, anything is possible, and it happens.
