March 7, 200818 yr I just ate a very tasty apple. My random philosophical question for the day is: how long ago was the apple I just ate picked? It was purchased at the Bardstown Kroger yesterday. Also, where do we think the apple came from?
March 7, 200818 yr From Washington State and three days ago. Really, they are picking apples in March. That surprises me.
March 7, 200818 yr Author Dude, you need a hobby. I've got two: eating apples and wasting random time on BGP.
March 7, 200818 yr That's OK Hearsay...your burning question is better than mine. I have wondered for years who invented the pillow. I can't find the answer anywhere.

March 7, 200818 yr That's OK Hearsay...your burning question is better than mine. I have wondered for years who invented the pillow. I can't find the answer anywhere. Here's the best answer I could steal: Pillows were originally used mainly by the wealthy, and have been found in Ancient Egyptian tombs. The difficulty of sophisticated dyes and sewing techniques lead to the development of pillows as an art form, with highly decorated pillows becoming prized commodities first in China and later in Medieval Europe. The Industrial Revolution saw the mass production of decorated textiles and decorated pillows I even managed to work the Industrial Revolution in there!

Somehere a caveman had to say..."Ugh...me can't sleep! My face in the dirt makes me sneeze. Ugh! Let me put my head on a rock. Ugh! That hurts! Ugh! Let me put some leaves in a tiger skin to cushion my thick, neanderthal head. Ugh!" That's my theory.

I also found this: 'The first pillow dated to about 3500B.C. They were hard, curved headrests made of wood, stone or alabaster and were used to protect a styled coiffure overnight.' The word pillow comes via Old English from Latin for 'cushion.' There may be a connection with the word 'palliasse,' which is a form of straw mattress, from the Latin word for straw, with which later pillows were stuffed.

Later efforts became more sophisticated incorporating bags to keep the armadillos and the rocks secured nicely under the head.
