Watusi Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I'm hearing rumors of a format shakeup for the PCB this year that will put Belfry and Pikeville back playing on the same night (Sat) and the other 4 County schools playing each other on the other night (Fri). This is the format that was used prior to 2005. Can anyone shed any light on it? According to the rotation, here will be the matchups for this year. What we don't know is what games will be played on what night and at what locations. Shelby Valley vs East Ridge Pike Central vs Phelps Belfry vs Lou Holy Cross Pikeville vs Corbin
iPapi Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 This is what I've heard, too. I've also heard that Belfry won't be hosting a game at all this year. IMO, this is the problem with letting the other Pike Co. schools into the Community Trust Bank Bowl game. At first, they were just happy to be playing, but now it isn't just good enough for them to be playing in the bowl and they feel they should host games. In truth, Belfry and Shelby Valley are the only stadiums with seating and parking adequate enough to host the bowl, but the game belongs at Pikeville if you go by tradition. I like the game format that has been used the past couple of years in that a set of games are played at Belfry one night, then Pikeville the next. They are the two most tradition rich programs in Pike Co. and have earned the right to host the bowl by their success on the field. Other county schools should be content for now with being involved in the game, and if not let's have only Belfry & Pikeville in the bowl and rotate the game each year between the two schools.
newarkcatholicfan Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I am opting out of making the drive this year but plan on making the trip next season when the match ups change again.
Watusi Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 I don't mind the format because I like having Belfry and Pikeville playing the marquee games on the same night. As long as they alternate that night's games between Belfry and Pikeville each year, then I think it is good for the PCB. The Friday night matchups though, need some help. This will hurt overall attendance by splitting these teams up and making them play each other. The ideal thing, IMO, is having them play out of area teams instead of one another, but logistically, that may be hard to accomplish. Unless you go to 3 nights or play 3 games each night on two nights, then it would be hard for every Pike Co team to participate each year. I would suggest Shelby Valley, Pike Central, Phelps and East Ridge rotate and play in the bowl every other year. One year Shelby Valley and Phelps could invite two teams from outside Pike County to play on Friday night of the PCB at Shelby Valley. The following year Pike Central and East Ridge would play two outside teams (maybe the same two?) on Friday night at Pike Central. This would at least draw an out of town crowd for each night and possibly attract more locals who would want to see some of our County schools play teams from elsewhere.
NEXT Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I am hearing there is a TON of problems/bickering going on right now over several different things with the PCB.
EKUAlum05 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 All I can say is don't bite the hand that feeds you. Maybe a deal should be worked that since the other County schools want to be able to host the game so bad, that their share of the proceeds come EXCLUSIVELY from the Friday games, but Belfry and Pikeville get to exclusively share the Saturday gate. I have no problem with the headliner game being hosted at Pikeville, because as mentioned, it fits tradition anyway. But the rest of this is nothing but greed from schools who ahve not earned the merits to be greedy.

refinstripes Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 From an officials standpoint, we come in to work these games and the host region sits at home, why is that? I worked a couple of years ago with an official from this region, they do have good quality officials in the region. We don't mind it, it is a long drive but we do get compensated well by the bank.
NEXT Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Like? A rift between some CTB higher ups and and the Pike BOE Superintendent and some of his people. Some not wanting Belfry/Pikeville to host at all and ER/PC to rotate hosting games on Fri./Sat games. Those same ones wanting to make Pikeville/Belfry play each other and the other county teams play each other. There is a jealousy/hate of Belfry in general coming from those in power right now, and its causing some problems. Its not people from Pikeville school district either. As these people want ER/PC to be more a of showcase. CTB has the final say though as thats where the $ comes from so everything will work out, but there will be some changes, at least for 2 years.

All Belfry or Pikeville have to do is say we are open for any and all bowl games....and every bowl game in the state will try to sign them. ER and PC couldn't get scheduled for the Toilet Bowl. If Belfry and Pikeville play each other the crowds will suffer. People enjoy seeing the showcased teams....and ...if the bank doesn't them to come for the bowl game...they won't be coming during the regular season.
Pirate Pride Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Anyone have an idea of how strong Louisville Holy Cross will be this upcoming season? As far as the other Pike teams. Well, if they don't like it how it is now, I would tell them "tuff"
