Is this the same JCHS that just got smacked by the KHSAA for some sort of violation within their football program?? If so we really know the priority of the BOE down there.

 

Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about. Yes, JC did get hit with a violation in football. But that is not the priority of this BOE. The Johnson Co. school system used to be a complete joke. The late Superindendent Orville Hamilton along with a board of local individuals and dedicated teachers have taken this school from a ranking below 200 to a ranking in the top 10% across the entire State. Everyone wants to hide behind their screens and complain they know nothing or very little about. I have a question for everyone? How many state champions has the Johnson County Middle School academic team won in the past 10 years? How many state titles has the Johnson Central High School academic team won? What elementary had the #1 test score in the entire state of Kentucky just a year ago?

 

To be honest I have no idea what the salary of Coach Matney is and I dont care. He has done more than anyone would know for this county and these boys. He has instilled a pride and will into the kids of Johnson County that we have never seen before. When JC played Cov. Cath for the State Semi's 2 years ago, I arrived at 2pm to ensure I would get my normal seat in the stadium, under the press box. It was already gone, the people of Johnson Co. had packed the home bleachers out, which holds roughly 4,000 people 5 hours before gametime. They were no tailgates, no concessions, just the people of Johnson Co. showing pride in a team that had laid it all out for its county and school and had already made history. That same Coach came into the stands well before the game thanking all the fans for their support and dedication they had showed by coming out so early and promised his team would do all it could take make it one step further and it did, but a much superior club who many knew would probably win, did what they had done all year long and found a way to be victorious.

 

I bothers me to see post of this manner for many have no idea where we as a county have came from. Post like these take away from the numerous hours individuals have put into to bring us to where we are as a school system today. Sure, we were hit with a violation, our image is a little hurt, but our pride remains. We will rise and continue what those before us have begun. To be the best school district in the entire state of Kentucky. Not just academically, not just athelitcally, but both academically and athletically and we will continue to mold and shape our kids to be successful contributors to our society and country.

Teachers EASILY put in 60 to 70 hours every week of the school year.

Your defense of Coach Matney is admirable as loyalty is always good. I stated in my original post that this is not a shot at Coach Matney. I'd take the money, too, if offered. My question is two-fold. First, is it true that he makes that and who pays it? Secondly, does this show that high school football is going the way of college and pro? Before you say "yes," I'd argue that high school sports do not have the revenue streams that college and pro do so that makes $100k difficult to justify.

 

I am pretty certain that Conner's former head coach made in the $100k range, for teaching and coaching.

Teaching and coaching are thankless jobs, anyone who goes into them at the amateur level should know this. Maybe Matney is paving a new road so that everyone will get paid like him. Let's not pull the guy down for making 6 figures, let us embrace and hope we can make the same. Otherwise get off the cpu during school and teach your class and quit crying.

You get what you pay for... If you want a great coach, you must be ready to hand over the dough.

I would bet that there are several coaches who total over 100k. Those in administrative positions can make 50-70k or more for that part of the job. Many are also named Director of Athletics which adds an additional 10-15k and then there is the coaching position that can add 2500 (Louisville) - ??? . Some schools base the coach's salary on a % of their teaching pay. Some have a flat rate.

Most of the better coaches also make some money working camps.

When you add it all up, they can make a pretty good hunk of cash, but when you add up the hours and the high profile nature of the job (where else are you second guessed on every decision you make?) it seems to me that coaches earn their $.

I'd bet that Sam Harp in Danville is pretty well paid.

The bottom line here is teachers are great and they are underpayed! And for the guy that I guess is trying to become a doctor, don't get your head to big son some of the dumbest people on earth are doctors and lawyers and I know a lot of them that don't work 6 days a week like a football coach will work 7 days a week during football season and have no summer break. As for coach getting 100k good for him, in the south 100k is the norm and most of the football coaches in GA only coach and are AD and yes lady b coach alot of those schools draw 10,000 people a game at 7 bucks a head. 6 home games do the math! More power to football coaches who take many hours away from there kids to be with someone else kids.

Congrats on your school board doing what it should do, have great academics. Is that not the goal of every BOE in the state?? Obiviously the football program is a priority or else they would not be paying the Head Coach 100K, through various positions. That is my only statement. All factual.
