What Highlands could've been

Featured Replies

Highlands could have definetly been a force with that lineup.

Last year, Holmes could have had this lineup:

Mike Hester

Duran Jefferson

Nate Edmondson

Austin Hill

Greg Rice

Coming off the bench:

Josh Nelson

Arrez Henderson

Braeon Avery

Terrance Clark

So basically it would have been the NKY TarHeels as your starting 5 (very good AAU team nationally) and the NKy Hawks coming off the bench. (won state championship as sophomores)

Both Highlands and Holmes could have been very scary had transfers and fallouts not occured.

Did that TarHeels team play together for awhile? Since about the 7th grade?

They had been together since 3rd or 4th grade.

Had they stayed together, they probably would have saw multiple region and state championships.(Holmes won 2 region titles without Hester and Edmondson and made a trip to last year state semis)

8th grade Hester went to Conner, came back to Holmes then went to SK his freshman year with Edmondson.

Edmondson came back to Holmes his junior year but his parents moved over the summer and he transferred to Gallatin Co.

No doubt had that group stayed together and got a chance to play together as seniors, along with Henderson and Avery, they would have been a nationally recognized team most likely.

As for Roberts why the Citadel. They have 16 players on their roster. 14! are freshman. I am thinking his family has ties to the school. Does anyone know for sure he is going on an athletic scholly?

Really, I heard a different reason for him leaving Holmes!

...What if OJ Mayo played for Highlands??

Then they wouldnt need any of the aforementioned players on my list. They could have put a JV team out there with him. OJ was sick in high school. I saw some clips of him for Huntington where he just tomahawk jammed on several HS kids.

:sssh: I said that for a reason. Didn't want to bring that topic up. :thumb:

The attitudes on the team didn't mesh well enough... And if you wanna play the transfer game, gotta throw Rice back to Holy Cross.. :D

Would have been a top 3 team in the state, but there's no way they would have been "nationally recognized."IMO.

I didn't mean top 25, top 20 recognized. I meant had they stayed together, Henley would have probably scheduled a few more out of state teams and went farther away from home for tournaments and such.

Rice was originally at Holmes though. His 7th grade year he played with them then his mother sent him to HC for his 8th grade and frosh year and came back to Holmes for personal reasons.

Well...what if Zach Lother was 6'9" ????

 I tell you what, that little guy is fun to watch. Probably the most heart on that team. I call him little spark plug every time I see him play.

How is this possible that so many kids move around to 2 & 3 different schools? Man there is moving around up there than balls on a pool table with a bad shooter!

As rapidly as nky is growing, you'd be surprised. With the amount of kids in the area I guess some feel they need to go to a different school to get recognition.

To be honest, and maybe I am oblivious and naive, I really don't think there is much recruiting going on here. Just a lot of different choices.

Probably sums it up the best. There are 21 different schools in nky to choose from. Probably another reason for the parity in nky and the reason the 9th currently has no state champions. The talent is too dispersed.

"WHat if" there was a Kenton Co High School, Boone Co High School (no Ryle or Conner), and a Campbell Co High School (include all campbell schools)? I think not only would this area dominate in football, but also baseball and basketball.

You'd have kids from the following current schools at one county school:

Kenton- SK, Scott, Holmes, Holy Cross, Ludlow, Dixie, Covcath, Villa, Beechwood

Campbell- Current Campbell Co, Highlands, Newport, NCC, Bellevue, Dayton, Silver Grove

Boone- Current Boone, Ryle, Conner, Heritage
