Probably sums it up the best. There are 21 different schools in nky to choose from. Probably another reason for the parity in nky and the reason the 9th currently has no state champions. The talent is too dispersed.

 

"WHat if" there was a Kenton Co High School, Boone Co High School (no Ryle or Conner), and a Campbell Co High School (include all campbell schools)? I think not only would this area dominate in football, but also baseball and basketball.

 

You'd have kids from the following current schools at one county school:

 

Kenton- SK, Scott, Holmes, Holy Cross, Ludlow, Dixie, Covcath, Villa, Beechwood

Campbell- Current Campbell Co, Highlands, Newport, NCC, Bellevue, Dayton, Silver Grove

Boone- Current Boone, Ryle, Conner, Heritage

There would probably be one Catholic school in the area, theoretically- CovCath, Villa, St. Henry, Brossart, and NewCath.

I'd actually like to see some of those big ole Brossart boys at a school with a football program.

Highlands could have definetly been a force with that lineup.

Both Highlands and Holmes could have been very scary had transfers and fallouts not occured.

I think with the CCH transfers while it might have helped some, it may not have been as big of a help as we think. Players like Romes and Sorrell excelled because they went somewhere they could be the man and it allowed them to develop more. Had they stayed at CCH we may have never even heard their names.

 

But I could be way off base. JMO since Covcath is loaded with talent every year.

Greg was originally at Holmes. He played there his 7th grade year. So technically Holy Cross got the transfer. His sophomore year he went back to Holmes for personal reasons.

Greg played with the Tar Heels . Not an original Tar Heel (Luster, Edmondson, Hester, Jefferson, Hill) but I believe started playing with them his 6th grade year.

 

The group of Hill, Jefferson, Hester, Edmondson, Rice, Luster never lost a high school game played together. They were 18-0 in 7th grade I believe and then 16-0 in 8th grade before they started being called up to play JV and Varsity.

 

Another kid who transferred that would have came off the bench last year was Ozzie McIntosh of Newport. Wouldn't have started but would have been a nice 6'6 option to have coming off the bench to spell Rice.

Correct. Ray Sterling was the coach of the Wildcats. They actually beat the Tar Heels that year but I don't believe the Tar Heels were at full strength.

 

I believe the Wildcats consisted of the Cramo twins from Newport (two kids who should have been at Holmes), Ryan Gribble, TJ Campbell (All state defensive back up in Michigan his senior year), Justin Young (LB at Morehead now), As well as Donte Rice, Quentin Claxton (Wesley Collins younger brother), and Anthony Hughes and a few others who didn't see much PT.

They had been together since 3rd or 4th grade.

 

Had they stayed together, they probably would have saw multiple region and state championships.(Holmes won 2 region titles without Hester and Edmondson and made a trip to last year state semis)

 

8th grade Hester went to Conner, came back to Holmes then went to SK his freshman year with Edmondson.

 

Edmondson came back to Holmes his junior year but his parents moved over the summer and he transferred to Gallatin Co.

 

No doubt had that group stayed together and got a chance to play together as seniors, along with Henderson and Avery, they would have been a nationally recognized team most likely.
