Ok, I remember playing against these kids growing up on the AAU circuit. They were pretty dogon good.

 

They were the best team in ky outside of the OJ Mayo led Rose Hill team. Other than that they dominated both regionally and nationally

Highlands could have definetly been a force with that lineup.

So basically it would have been the NKY TarHeels as your starting 5 (very good AAU team nationally) and the NKy Hawks coming off the bench. (won state championship as sophomores)

 

Both Highlands and Holmes could have been very scary had transfers and fallouts not occured.

 

Since you're playing that game, I remember a time the NKY Rockets ('07 version coached by Pat Ryan) had discussions of staying together in high school?? This roster might have been competitive at say NCC, Holy Cross, etc., and might have made a contribution in football as well:

It was actually the Eastern Kentucky Stars and yes every year in the state tournament these two teams met in the state finals with the Stars winning most of the games, but if im correct they eventually got in trouble for illegal players something the Tar Heels never did. That Tar Heel team was something special and fun to watch. James Pouncy knew how to coach his team.

Don't remember them ever getting into trouble for anything, unless it was in the high school years? They dominated everyone, including the Tar Heels, who if I'm not mistaken never beat them, at least not up until freshman age? The problem with them was they all split as they entered high school, as did the NKY Rockets; and populated several teams with quality players. The Stars were the nucleus of several 16th region teams until their graduation on '07!!

Correct. Ray Sterling was the coach of the Wildcats. They actually beat the Tar Heels that year but I don't believe the Tar Heels were at full strength.

 

I believe the Wildcats consisted of the Cramo twins from Newport (two kids who should have been at Holmes), Ryan Gribble, TJ Campbell (All state defensive back up in Michigan his senior year), Justin Young (LB at Morehead now), As well as Donte Rice, Quentin Claxton (Wesley Collins younger brother), and Anthony Hughes and a few others who didn't see much PT.

Matt and Jermaine. They played a couple games with the Wildcats.

 

The two from SK were Steve Sterling (coach's son) and Tood Morgan. Neither were very good and would have never played high school ball.
