Newport comes to Ft. Thomas tonight to face the Birds in 36th district semifinal action. The winner moves on to face Bellevue in the finals a secure a spot in the 9th region tournament. Who wins, and what's the margin of victory?

I'm not too familiar with the Wilcats this year. I know they beat NCC a couple months ago...but what since? Can anyone give me a quick scouting report on what to expect from them? What makes 'dem Wildcats wild?

I don't know much about them, but I believe they are a young team. I've noticed some names from the paper box scores.

This may be a trap game for Highlands. Coming off a big win against arch rival NCC. I think the Birds evade the Cats by 12.

Hopefully the Birds get up early and often and they can rest McGraw partially. I expect that to happen in the final as well.

If Highlands beats NCC by 20, I think they can beat Newport by 30. My guess is 70-40, with McGraw having 32 points. He sure is fun to watch.

If Newport can hit shots early and gain confidence, they could stay will Highlands for a while. If not, it will be over quickly. Highlands by 7 or 30.

Birds by 14

If I remember correctly, Newport ran NCC out of the house earlier this year...so they are certainly capable of surprising the Birds. Saw Newport's coaches and close associates at the HHS-NCC game with notebooks...so they will be prepared. (I guess they were smart enough to get there early!)

No Doubt the atmosphere in the Birdcage won't be the same as it was Monday night, but I don't think Coach Schlarman will allow his team to overlook the athletic Wildcats! The Loser still goes home and the players know that, so I'll take Highlands 64-47!
