You guys are talking about a kid that quit basketball not football.

 

Yes, the starting qb did quit basketball and may be done with sports all together. I asked around and many think even if he did come back the backup would probably start anyways. He's the nephew of former nfl tight end Jason Dunn. He apparently has all the tools and should provide them with better decision making.

I think its Trent "Dunn" ? not sure.

 

His name is Tre' Dunn and he is a great kid on and off the field - will be a Junior. Not sure why he wasn't utilized last year. I also heard another name, Adam Gooch perhaps at QB???

What is the outlook for this years Titans?

I saw Mercer play a couple times last year. It was the 1st Lincoln County game and South Laurel. And, when I say the games came down to the final play of the game they literally did. Mercer lost both of those games by a couple points as they did in couple others in the same fashion. A 5-5 regular season team that very easily could have and should have been undefeated, as weird as that sounds. It's my understanding that they return practically all of their key players, a senior class of around 30 or so. It won't surprise me a bit to see Jaggers and company have the Titans for a deep run in November.

Last I have heard Trevor Short is still the starting qb. Today is the first day of practice so I am sure everyone who lives in Mercer County will know for sure very soon who the starting qb is. I think it would be a mistake to switch qb's as Trevor had a lot to learn last year and so did a large amount of the team. The Danville Advocate Messenger had a big story on Trevor Short and how Shane Boyd worked out with Trevor Short this summer so I have a hard time believing Trevor won't be the starting qb. In my opinion, some, but not all Mercer fans were really spoiled by the state championship, but 5A football is a whole different animal. In time Mercer will develop into a consistent regional contender, but people need patience. A lot of talent is coming up from their undefeated 8th grade team and their offensive line is huge for the next 4 years easily. The size they have coming up is unbelievable and as time goes on, Mercer will continue to get better before they get worse. They should be much improved this year.

I saw that article. Jaggers, having played quarterback all through high school and college I'm sure will make the right decision. From what I've seen of Short he is a pretty good athlete but sometimes your best athlete isn't necisarrily your best quarterback. I wouldn't read too much into the article that was written. Like Shane Boyd said, he apparently has been asked to work with Short and others from old Harrodsburg on previous occasions. It wasn't like Boyd was going to say that Short wasn't good enough to play quarterback . In my opinion, there was someone else behind the article trying to make a point for himself in the quarterback situation and not just for Trevor. I agree with you though Purple Pride, except I personally feel that the talent levels from the 06' and '07 Mercer teams were totally different. It'd be like comparing apples and oranges.

Mercer County was not ready for 5A last year. This year they know what it takes to play with the bigger schools.

There's a big difference between being in a class with only two teams who could compete with you... and then going to a class where 9-12 teams are just as good if not better. Especially after you lose the talent that they did.

Mercer did a little 7 on 7 amongst themselves last night at the sports complex practice field. Does anyone know who took the snaps at the QB position besides Trevor Short?

Short did not take snaps at QB. It wasn't really a 7-on-7 deal. Coach Jaggers had the kids running routes, catching a few passes and getting back into the swing of things.

I have never heard any person from Mercer cry anything about disparity or a KHSAA conspiracy. The realistic Mercer fans understand what is meant when people say Mercer was not 5A ready last year. All Mercer fans will tell you that in time, they will be ready, and in another few years, they very well could have the same number of kids as South Laurel and Lincoln and all the other schools in their district. This is only the third year of consolidation. Mercer's best years have yet to arrive. They are still in elementary and middle school.

I would have to agree with you. It's just my opinion - I think Short is a very good athlete, but he is not a natural QB. I just can't see him playing QB at the next level anywhere. I do think he could play safety somewhere though. Over the past two years, when he had an opportunity to play some safety, he did a very good job. I think Jaggers would be doing this kid a favor by moving him to safety, just like he did with Freeman Edwards 2 years ago.

I agree. I'd like to see Trevor play in the secondary. Freeman Edwards made the best of his move to safety. That kid was a beast back there. He was a real head hunter!
