Best public speaker of all - time.....

Featured Replies

Clinton, who was governor of Arkansas at the time, was chosen by Dukakis to deliver his nominating speech in Atlanta in 1988. There are different stories about what happened. Clinton says that the Dukakis people gave him this long speech to read that bored the convention; the Dukakis people say that Clinton wrote his own speech, which lasted about a half hour and achieved a very poor reception - so much so that the Democrats just wanted him off the podium by the end of it. Clinton has said it nearly destroyed his political career on national television. Clinton later shrewdly made amends by appearing on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, playing his saxophone and making fun of his appearance in Atlanta. Americans saw that Clinton had a sense of humor, and that tended to neutralize the damage.

This is the one I am talking about and remember.

Could the alternatives have been that much worse? While Gore & Kerry may not have been great speakers & too cold & calculated, there is no question that they are intelligent.

Alternative to:

-we're in 2 wars both b/c of 9/11 but only one of those actually had anything to do with it. Saddam Hussein was a bad guy but so is Fidel Castro & we haven't invaded that country in 40 yrs.

-we're approaching a recession. While Reagan gets the benefit from Republican for the 90's, I'm sure it was Bill's fault for our economy today. The only problem is that the budget was balanced & we had a surprise when he left.

-Oil prices has quadrupled $25 a barrel to $101 a barrel (record high). Gas prices have almost tripled $1.25-$1.50 to $3.50 at times.

-Prices at the pump effect prices in stores so everything has went up. I bought 1 apple the other day & it costed $1.34. It was good but not work that.

-Due to the wars, we've had to send troops over & over. We do not give them the leave time that are expected between duties. Then, we are threatening Iran. If we invade Iran before the years up, we'll have to re-introduce the draft (imo).

The alternatives may not have done as BAD as GW but I highly doubt it.

Yes!! I've heard all the other spin from the rest of your post many times before and it's been debated over and over so I'm not going to thread jack here. There is also no question that Bush is intelligent also, that's simply more partisan spinning there too.

I always enjoyed listening to Henry Clay. :D

Wasn't there a report that GW's grades were BETTER than Kerry's?

On your first point, the mantle of Democrat Presidents, JFK, tried to invade Cuba and was met with a huge issue.

The economy has had been pointed out numerous times was in a downturn 6 months before the Nov Presidential election.

When did the President starting setting prices on items.

LBBC, don't bother. I'll bet there's been dozens of threads and thousands of posts debating all of this and not one person has been swayed either way. Save your energy.

I think we are getting off topic here but for the record, Eisenhower planned the operation and it was left with Kennedy to undertake. It was a fiasco but he "talked his way" out of it when he stood up to Kruschev and the missles.

Ron Reagan once told this story. A Republican politician campaigning through the South stopped at an old farmhouse and introduced himself to the farmer attending to his chores in the barnyard. "Well, I'll be!" said the farmer. "I've never seen a Republican before. Stand still and let me go get Ma. She ain't never, neither."

While the farmer was gone, the politician looked about for something to use as a podium, but could only find a pile of manure where the farmer had just cleaned out the barn. Undeterred, he climbed up and when the farmer and his wife returned, he delivered one of his better speeches.

At the end, the farmers wife declared it was a fine speech and it was the first time she had ever heard a Republican talk.

The politician said "Thank you, ma'am, and I will admit that although I've given many, many speeches, that is the first one I've ever given from a Democratic platform."

One of the comedy channels on XM has a compilation of Reagan telling jokes at various speeches and public appearances. He really was quite entertaining.

Obama is such a good speaker it scares me. Public Speaking is very powerful tool.

Indeed. What was they thinking...

:lol:Exactly what I was thinking...

I find it very ironic that those who call out Bush's stupidity do it while using incorrect grammar....
