I knew that you missed me gchs_uk9! Oh what fun we can have when the truth is spilled. Let me ask you this - if you were applying for this position and the board of ed. hung you out to dry every chance they got, cut your feet out from you and told you what to wear and what not to wear even though your in coaching because it is all about the kids, wouldn't that somewhat turn you off. From what I've heard about Garrard's administration is that they are very supportive of the coaches, programs and kids. That would really encourage a coach to come to Garrard. The turnoff is the "few" in the community that think they are in the position to hire - even though their only care is what happened in the 70's and 80's. Along with that, the board is too worried about what colors is on the jersey's and not what is best for the kids. I think that would turn me off a bit, but I'm just an outsider looking in.

 

I have always noticed the same thing about the administration at Garrard County as you did. They seem like genuinely nice guys who have a strong desire to win ballgames AND develop young minds.

 

As for the board of education, I have no idea about cutting down coaches and hanging them out to dry. That seems like something an insider from the previous staff might have, not myself. But if so, that's not a good thing. It would seem like that is where the school administration should step in and make a statement. If they did, I'm not aware of it.

 

As for recollections of glory days, the 70s and 80s definitely weren't them for Garrard County. Garrard only had four winning seasons during those two decades combined. I could see the push for Jerry Perry because of the success that he had, but bottom line, a portion of the population will never be happy no matter who is in change.

 

Finally, you mentioned the color scheme and that just seems like such a petty issue for people to be involved in. The board passed a rule a couple years ago saying they wouldn't pay for anything not cardinal and yellow, am I correct? Then there are articles in the local paper on a weekly basis about the issue! Garrard County has been moderately-to-very successful in many sports over the last few years, yet the color issue always gets the ink. It's tiresome.

If you were a coach, you would think that you would want to go to a school were tradition did matter. Colors are a valuable part of the tradition. People who mess with the colors are messing with tradition. The love of tradition should be a great turn on for a coach.

 

That's a true statement, but it can be beat to death at times. Most people just want to see the school win games and have playoff success. In my opinion, they can wear purple helmets and leotards as long as the former is being accomplished!

I thought Stonebraker was a proven winner. When a coach can win at Casey, that is a feat in itself. The community at Garrard obviously didn't think so they wanted him out. People in Garrard couldn't wait a few years for a football regional championship so they want a new coach, so why were they satisfied when they had to wait 24 years until they got a basketball regional?? That doesn't make sense?? This whole thing seems like a personal agenda. I'm sure that the next hire will be someone that is a great football mind, CARES ABOUT KIDS, and probably not from Garrard.:thumb:

Just heard this from a source close to the program. Front runners for the spot are Scenters from Madison Central, Johnny Poynter from Trimble County, some hot shot from LCA, some guy from Alabama, and a local boy. Don't know if local means native or currently in house.

I would be interested to know who the LCA guy is. The Alabama name has floated for a while, although no one seems to actually know the name!

On Alabama, the source is not revealing everything, but apparently the last name is Ables or Adams, not sure which.

Catlion, sounds like gchs_uk9 has all the "inside" info. Find out who the sports editor is at Garrard, maybe he will know who the native is. My info is just heresay. I do think the best candidate for the job is going to Lincoln, so Garrard is missing out on that. Lincoln's gain and Garrard's loss.

So, a current staffer is going to Lincoln. Who is that and to what position?

That info is what I heard. Obviously everyone knows more than me because I haven't been able to put forth the names like you all have and I don't know the statistical background of Garrard either. I just think if this candidate leaves, it's a huge loss.

Would like to see Poynter from Trimble Co. get the job. He young and look what he has done at Trimble since he's been there.
