I was at practice the other day for a few and it looks like Brewer could be the tailback and Jeff Smith the QB. I didn't see Oden and ask a few of the boys about him they said he hadn't been at practice this week. Over all the Wildcats looked good.

I was told that Newport has been working with Cody Collins at QB. Collins was a QB his freshman year and has a descent arm. His biggest weakness was confidence and relying on his line to give him time to get a pass off. Hopefully he has overcome that and can get the job done. Jeff Smith will probably be moved to a TE for blocking and the quick pass. From what I've heard Newport's schedule this year is not has strong as last season so this should help them to build some confidence back into the team. I just hope that Newport's coaches realize what players have been there during last season and didn't walk off and quit. I personally just can't stand a quitter and all I see out of a quitter is problems. Remember - they quit before when things got tough - they will do it again and hurt you and the team!

You are correct! They were not prepared to lose to Bellevue. They had the size, speed, and overall talent. Perhaps, they took Bellevue foregranted (blame that one on the coaches).Then the coaches ripped them on the field right after the game. That is where they lost the season.

Bellevue 2007 was not what Newport 2007 expected. Bellevue had a good team and more than likely have a good group this season. Newport 2007 had no senior leadership and that IMO hurts a team. Newport has a lot of seniors this coming season so hopefully some of them will step up and be a leader. As far as my feelings about the quitters - I personally have no use for a quitter. These players are young men now - they range from 15 to 19 years old - it is time they show some maturity. Enough of this mind set that they are the super stars because some coach in the past made them thjink that way. IMO it takes a TEAM not an individual to win a game.

So what will keep kids from transferring from Newport? Any thought out there? What seems to be the big problem there? Can anyone solve the mystery?

Thats ok Ram helped out. I would have like to have seen Newport Keep Simon Kenton on the schedule. May be add Holmes or Beechwood.
