Why move Scott Meyers to the middle school?????:confused: please, I invite you to enlighten me on your personal experiance. PM me if you have to keep our own personal debate off this thread.

 

Scott is an excellent coach. He has been coaching for over 10 years now and he has more than enough Quality coaching experiance. He played for an awsome coach (Tom Duffy-Highlands, he was the starting Nose Tackle for the 1989 State Championship Team) and has coached under good football coaches at Newport (Roy Lucas, Mark Goetz, John Schlarman, Jim Hyder).

 

Partin (who was a teammate of mine in both High School and College) has enough football in him for the makings of an excellent coach. He is an excellent fundamentals teacher and a good positive person to have around the kids.

 

Pompillio (who was also a teammate of mine in high school) is not either the manager (that is Dennis Brewer) or the trainer (I have no idea who that is now, most schools like Newport change trainers like they do underwear). Pompillio is also a qualified individual who is excellent around the kids. Why in the heck would you want to put him down at the middle school. Pompillio also had an excellent career as a player, you just didn't hear about him because he played on a star filled team.

 

All three individuals are excellent teachers of the Fundamentals, the most important coaching aspect of football at any level. You can throw the X's and O's out the window. I am going into my seventh year of coaching and I have learned that you just adjust the X's and O's according to the players you got, you cannot adjust talent and the basic fundamentals.

 

Scott will teach the linebackers to get off blocks and tackle. Partin will teach the Running Backs to run hard and not fumble, Pompillio will teach the Wide Outs to get a great get-off, run a great route and catch the ball, and they will teach the DB's to cover and make a play on the ball. There may be times were the players do not do what they were taught, but they will coach all of them very well and make the players reach their full potential.

 

This is just my opinion

 

IMO, seems like that would be a good Middle School coaching staff. Of course Meyer would be HC, Put Pomp as Kicking Coach.

I hope none of those young Wildcats are looking at all this negativity about the coaching staff they are all looking to lead them this year. I feel like every one should be behind the whole coaching staff they put a lot of time an effort into these kids an do a very good job.

DMZ's humor was always a highlight at practice for my son when he played in the FTJFL. There's none other like DMZ, that's for sure. Every Thanksgiving the first play of our football game my son calls is the Shelbyville Pass only to honor DMZ.

I seen a young man at practice Cody Collins he was the QB for the Freshmen 2 years I think. Looks like he could be a good tightend.What do you think Killercats09?

Collins is a good young man. He didn't have what I would call an impressive freshmen year at quarterback. He had a good line in front of him that year but for some reason he could never get the ball off. As far as a TE, possibly could work but I only hoping that he can take a hit coming across the middle. My thought is I like Hatfield at the TE position, he's a big target and can handle coming across the middle. That would be my pick.:thumb:

Basketball defense -- yes, football defense -- NO! Sorry That's Pat, I like Collins a lot but I'm not too sure about his defensive play. I've seen him play some awesome defense on the basketball court but as far as I know he's never played defense in football. I'm hoping he hits the weights hard this year which will improve his strength under the rim for next season then perhaps we can talk about him on defense for the '09 football season.

Im not sure how Collins would play defense but he is a very good kid, a TEAM player an intelligent. He will help the Cats no matter where he is on the field.

Who will be that big play WR for the Cats this year? They are a few names like, Barger, Kim, Baldwin who are all Sr.

Those three young men are tough and fast. They do lack in size but if they can manage to run good routes and break free then they could do some damage to defenses. I actually look for Newport (if they think about it) to use a lot of pop passes then hit the defense with the break away pass. You've got those three guys and you've got a big target in Hatfield coming across the middle. Then you've got Price who can get open when he runs good routes. Newport has the talent as long as the coaches realize they have a lot of good players and not waste time on the ones that aren't team players. Face it Einstein70 -- I don't have much respect for quitters unless they can prove to me they have changed for the better of the team and not their personal agenda.:thumb:

KC, They would not let CC play D because he was QB. Truth being known he's the toughest Kid on the team. And as far as BB Def., have you ever seen him box out or dive head first for a looxe ball. BTW you should have seen him play in the youth leagues. AGGRESSIVE!!! Good luck Wildcats, Now about the Coaches?

That's Pat -- let me just say this about Collins. CC it is a good young man and yes I've seen him play a lot of basketball and football. But I just don't see if as a QB for Newport. His freshman year at the QB spot was not a productive one. In fact, the freshmen team that season managed to get to the championship game because of their powerful defense coach by Upchurch and Baldwin. Upchurch was the master mind of calling defenses and his assistant was the one who work on the stunts and techniques. Collins has the potential to be a QB IMO but his freshman year he lacked the confidence. Coach Pic believes in two platooning his teams and from what I've seen it works for his freshmen teams. Coach Pic and his staff have a winning record. The freshmen staff has been together for three seasons and have produce so excellent players. In fact, they've turned some below average players into above average players. That's Pat you seem to have a passion for Newport football as I and Einstein70 do so maybe we'll cross paths at a practice and compare our theories about this coming season.

I like all of the guys they have coaching down there, theres a couple of teachers down there and a couple of guys that are just trying to help out. If you really wanted to try to build a sucessful program you have to bring in quality coaches, and give these other gentleman Jobs at the Jr. high level. No disrespect to anyone! Sometimes you have to do what's best for the program. Good luck Cats! And, I guess the People that are incharge will have to make some changes.
