....which means Spring is right around the corner....which means Spring football is also right around the corner and I can't wait. First, I need my football "fix" badly. While I always have withdrawal problems, its particularly bad after a state championship year. Second, with all the graduating starters, Spring football this year is going to be particularly interesting. There will be lots of starting positions up for the taking. This year, more than last year, its going to be very intense out there. Nothing better than seeing some friends that I don't see very often outside of football. Is it March yet?

He was looking for another baseball practice field. When he came across a piece of flat land, he started a gobbling and ran back to the farm house all excited. I of course thought he must have been drinking. There's no flat land in Bracken County.

Yes, the 7/7 are held usually in July although I don't know exactly when. Try to get to Spring football if you can. The amount of hitting that goes on is very impressive.

The timing of spring football is based on when your boys and girls basketball teams have both been eliminated from the tournament. Once that happens you have so many days to get in 10 football practices, which can be full pads and full contact (some schools elect not to go full pads, others do. Highlands does. Some, particularly the smaller schools, elect to forego spring football because of the other spring sports going on...baseball, track.) There can only be intersquad scrimmages-no interschool scrimmages. Highlands generally has a lot of live full contact drills and a couple of full go scrimmages without the kicking game. Dale uses spring football to do a lot of hitting to see how the younger players and potential new starters have improved since the end of the last season...more so in my opinion than during two a days. The weather is a lot cooler, more recovery time if someone gets injured, plus the coaching staff can analyze the results in preparation for two a days. I don't think most schools do that but its probably more of Dale's unorthodox coaching style like having Thursday pregame practices under the lights.
