February 20, 200818 yr OPEC continues it's cold war against the US and are putting up a strong fight. I just read today they are getting ready to cut back supply in the coming months. Demand is down, price is up.... they will do everything possible to keep oil over $85 dollars, you can count on that. Amazing a speculator making several million a year is allowed to punish millions of people. Amazingly, you have just stated the law of demand. As price rises, demand decreases. Imagine that. :lol: There is no conspiracy here folks, just capitalism at its finest. Would you prefer socialism??

OPEC will not let oil fall down past $75 for a long time unless there is a radical movement from the US. Not until we eclipse 4.00 will our Govt take it seriously.

February 20, 200818 yr You're wrong, They've ALWAYS made a difference in gas prices. Look it up. You are correct sir. My question is how come several refineries were shutdown in the 80's and 90's, when they darn well knew demand would go up (see year 2000 to present).

Gas prices have never jumped like they have in the last few years if a wind storm blows in. It's silly and stupid. Keep in mind the US uses more than 2 million gallons of crude every day. The refinery in question on it's best day produces about 1 percent of that. The numbers do not lie.

February 20, 200818 yr Got gas for 2.99 Monday evening after the news broke... Most other stations in the area had it at 3.19 so I was extremely excited to see 2.99... That station was at 3.09 this morning.

No, again you have a poor understanding of simple economics. The Law of Demand states that as prices rise, demand (and quantity demanded) will continue to fall accordingly. This is SUPPOSED to happen in a free market economy like the US. The problem here is that we are spoiled brats, plain and simple. How many of us actually plan out our weeklong trips, so as to save money on gas? More than likely you fall in the majority that just "stop at the store" when you need something, or "run out" to grab a few things. Blaming the government is the easy way out for our ridiculously exorbiant gas practices. Gas prices, according to economics, CANNOT and WILL NOT have a significant drop until we reduce our dependence on oil and/or find other sustainable means of transportation. Make no mistake, I am just like everyone else, but at least I know what I am.

OPEC and Saudia Arabia are sitting on 100 years worth of oil. If they pumped out more oil to meet the current demand the price of oil would cut in half, bringing down gas to around $2.00. And they in turn would lose billions. To them it's simple business, if they can get us to buy gas at $2.75 to 3.00 which they know we will, why would they want to do anything to help lower the price of oil or gas? Bush himself was in Saudi Arabia about a month ago "asking" the King to put more oil on to the market. Only to have his request denied in less than 60 mins. Chavez is using his billion dollr profits and putting it into social programs in Venz and the people love it. Pretty slick for a guy trying to be the long term dictator. Watch a video on Saudia Arabia, toilet seats over there are gold plated. I do agree we need an alternative source. However, we are at least 10 years away from that. I do not even believe gas prices are close to peaking in the US yet. I agree we are spoiled, but I do not drive an SUV.
