I could see where Russia could think it's a test, I just think it's dumb for them to call the US out on it, when they're doing the same. All this is, is propaganda spreading that's helping Russia send it's anti US message. We're about to no longer be referred to the as "The Big Kid on the block", but rather "The Big Target".

You basically answered a reason for them doing it...to spread anti-US propaganda and to help justify their own weapons testing. They couldn't very well justify testing weapons themselves if they maintained that the United States was on the up and up.

A Russian Typhoon missle sub could sit off the coast of Washington or New York say, 25-50 miles away. They're very quiet, so they're hard to detect. From the time a launch order is given, the entire city could be completely destroyed well inside a half hour. And half of that time is launch prep.

No, Capt. Vilnius sailed it to us. Then we pretended to destroy it, but really destroyed another sub. Then the guy at the state dept. said to Amb. Lysenko, "You mean you've lost another sub?" Then Alec Baldwin rode Red October up a river and talked to Sean Connery about fishing...THE END.

I had forgotten that the Red October was a Typhoon class with a caterpiller drive. I was thinking it was a completely new class of sub.
