True. Cruise missiles, and good old fashioned bombers are still available. I would rather have to worry about bombers than ICBM's b/c it's easier to catch bombers.

It's still easier to catch these bombers since we can track them taking off from their bases. It's not "easy" but easier. An ICBM gives you about a 20 second warning before you're dead. Now submarines, that's a totally different story.

I realize there is probably no fool proof way to stop all warheads from entering our territory. So, just for the sake of argument, I wouldn't think a bomber has much of a chance getting over land and wouldn't the same technology shoot down an air to surface missile?

A Russian Typhoon missle sub could sit off the coast of Washington or New York say, 25-50 miles away. They're very quiet, so they're hard to detect. From the time a launch order is given, the entire city could be completely destroyed well inside a half hour. And half of that time is launch prep.

They're on their way back to becoming a major player on the world stage. I saw a quote from Putin a few days ago (not sure when he actually said it), that we were on the road to another arms race and that Russia was going to try to develop new weapons and technology...also, now that they're turning back to their old ways, it won't be long before we won't be able to ignore them.
