ladiesbballcoach Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I went last night with my wife and it was worth the money. Very good evening. You get 2 1/2 hours for the $15. Some music, Joel and Victoria come out with a little message, some music, he talks some more, some worshipping, his mother spoke of surviving cancer, some worshipping, he introduces Victoria who speaks about keeping your marriage in God's favor, some worshipping, he gives his main message finish with some worshipping. I know I have been critical of his no sin talk message but after listening to him, if you truly follows what he is saying than you are right on with the message of the Bible. He emphasizes throughout the night that on faith being alert and falling God's purpose for you. Turning your entire life over to God and having faith that he is going to take care of you. Your job, your finances, your family, your friends, your entire life, you turn over to Christ to use for his purposes and in return God will favor you. Bad things are going to happen, you aren't going to be perfect, but you repent ask for forgiveness and keep focused on turning your life over to the Lord. He is coming to Louisville in May. It is worth the $15. In addition, he pushes hard to be involved in a local bible based church. He even points out that they are not there to get money and move on. That a person's first responsibility is to their local church and for a person to mature and grow in their faith and be a part of God's family it is important for them to be involved in a local church. Anyone else there last night?
ladiesbballcoach Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 I enjoy him. The prices of his stuff were very reasonable. I bought 10 CD messages that my daughter and I can listen to on the way to school in the morning for $10. $1.00 a CD. Very reasonable.
ladiesbballcoach Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 He told 3 very good jokes. Teacher was doing a lesson on self esteem and asked her 2nd grade class if anyone thought they were stupid. Well, Little Johnny, hemmed and hawed and after a minute stood up. Well the teacher didn't know what to do. She asked, "Johnny do you really think you are stupid?" Johnny replied, "Not really but I hated seeing you standing there all by yourself."
ladiesbballcoach Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 The phone rang at the local church and the secretary answered. A guy asked to speak to the head hog at the feeding trough. Well the secretary was appalled by the lack of respect and told the guy that it was wrong to be so disrespectful. The caller told her that he was calling to make a $10,000 donation. The secretary said well hold on, Porky, just walked in.
ladiesbballcoach Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 A 60 year old couple was celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary and an angel appeared to give them each one wish for being so devoted to God and each other for the past 40 years. The wife asked for tickets so that they could travel the world together. Immediately her hands were filled with tickets. The husband asked to be the husband of a wife 30 years younger than him. Immediately, he was 90 years of age.
UKPat02 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I have a problem with him promising that God will return favor to you if you just turn everything over to Him. I feel like Osteen's message is very watered down. But I know that it works for a lot of people, so who am I to judge?
rockcastleraiders Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I am not a big fan of Joel Osteen but if people are TRULY getting closer to God and souls are being saved; I can't complain.

Alabama Larry Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 We had a thread about him a while back and I think I mentioned his lack of using scripture. $15.00 is not bad, lights/water/ have to be paid for. I don't think Billy Graham charges anything. I also will not judge him, he seems like a very good speaker.

He specifically listed 9-10 Scriptures on the screen in his 20 minute sermon and then in his little snippets he would quote from Scripture rather frequently.

The secretary said well hold on, Porky, just walked in. The above reminds me of this one: Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company. One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, 'Father, my dog is dead. Could ya' be saying' a mass for the poor creature?' Father Patrick replied, 'I'm afraid not; we cannot have services for an animal in the church. But there are some Baptists down the lane, and there's no tellin' what they believe. Maybe they'll do something for the creature.' Muldoon said, 'I'll go right away Father. Do ya' think $5,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?' Father Patrick exclaimed, 'Sweet Mary, Mother of Jesus! Why didn't ya tell me the dog was Catholic?
Sting Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 The Enquirer had a story about the show this weekend and it had prices around the stage at $160-ish per ticket. Is this true?
ladiesbballcoach Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 The Enquirer had a story about the show this weekend and it had prices around the stage at $160-ish per ticket. Is this true? When I went to purchase my ticket, the only ticket price I saw was $15. That is all I can report on. here is the event schedule http://joelosteen.lakewood.cc/site/PageServer?pagename=JOM_events When you hit buy tickets, it gives you one price option, $15. Now I guess that a scalper or one of the ticket agencies may have gobbled up front row tickets and reselling them at that price but it does not seem that Joel's organization was.
UKPat02 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Why is that a problem for you? Because I don't think anyone can promise God will lavishly bless you if you turn everything over to him. "In this world you will have troubles..." Osteen seems to ignore that quote from Jesus.
