An evening with Joel Osteen

Featured Replies

I didn't like how he dodged Larry King's tuff questions about abortion and homosexuality with a "well we pray for them Larry" answer. I felt like he didn't want to offend any of those people putting the money in those big buckets being passed around.

What should he have done?

Well, I think we all pray for them but how is that answering "What is your stand on abortion?"I know if that was my pastor he would tell him how he felt and told them it was wrong and why and if he didn't I'm sure he would have a lot to answer too when he got back.

What should he have done?

How about being truthful about what the Bible (GOD'S WORD) says about such things as this?

Would your pastor be as in your face about the sin of glutony?

How about the sin of greed?

My pastor preaches THE WORD, whats wrong, whats right,Sin,the Blood,Hell,Heaven, every aspect of Life. Is he popular not all times, If my toes get stepped on, I needed it most that is just the way it is. He does tell us that if you are not Saved you will go to Hell it is a real place.

How do the fat people in your congregation like the glutony sermon?

Hope your pastor isn't a fat guy.

Jesus was very critical of religious people and stepped on toes that claimed to follow God.

Did he do the same for unbelievers though?

I think you will find that Jesus had one face for those that claimed to be a part of God's family and those that did not claim to know him.

Exactly.

Some sins are safe to preach about, some are not.

I have to honestly say that I have never heard of Joel Osteen until this thread was started . What church is he a minister at ? What denomination ?

It is a non-denominational church in Houston.

Lake-something. It meets at the old arena the Houston Rockets used to play in.

Largest congregation in the nation if I remember right.

His website is http://www.joelosteen.com.

And yes the church is the former Renuion Arena.

Here is a link to when his show is broadcast.

The 30-minute show is pretty much just his sermon.

The hour show has worship songs, his wife or someone else also gives a short message and is the entire worship service at the church.

This man is a false prophet. I've made my feelings known on this before. God does not reward us with earthly treasures for faithfulness, but that is this man's message. I think you should turn away from him LBBC, but I respect your right to spend your $15 as you see fit.

I totally agree. He is a false prophet. Plant your seed, get your need cheapens the Gospel. Christ is not a Genie in a bottle.

This morning my daughter and I listened to a CD about trusting God.

He was very clear that God will not answer every prayer the way we want. He said that we will pray and pray and pray about something but that does not mean that God will give us what we want. Maybe it is a flat no. Maybe God knows we are not ready for it. Maybe God knows that there are better options. Maybe God knows that it is wrong for us.

I liked a statement he said that when we push something through it might be good in our lives but it is not God's best.

Does that sound like a false teacher? He preached that we won't always get what we want just because we pray for it and our living our lives for God's purpose. Sometimes God's purpose doesn't fit with what we want.
