Piercing is the new nonconforming conformity. The minute you pierce something, you're just another lemming.

 

I have much more respect for the young man/woman who doesn't get pierece or tatooed even though everyone's telling them they should.

I would add that oral piercings can cause severe illness and/or death.

My brother actually stopped being friends with his best bud because he got one. He is 18, my brother, and he hates anything with a ring in it on a guy or girl...except ears on girls.....

I used to have my ears pierced four times apiece back about 15 years ago. Did that thing for a few years, but it got old once I realized I was cool without the accessories. I probably couldn't put an earring through any of my eight holes without discomfort now, it's been so long since I've worn any of them.

 

Although I will confess that using Christmas tree ornaments as gag earrings were always good for a few laughs around the holidays.

 

Don't take this personal, Gooch, but I find lip and eyebrow piercings and the like to be completely ridiculous-looking. Like people sporting a mohawk haircut, it's just hard to take people seriously who adorn themselves in that fashion. And I am by no means what you would call uptight, straight-laced and conservative.

 

You shouldn't have to buy a uniform to express your individuality.

I mean, if you're planning on taking it out anyway then maybe there's not much of a point in doing it but if it's going to be a couple of years before med school then go for it if you think it'll work for you. I think they work for some people and don't work for others... don't know if it will or won't for you until you give it a shot.

Dude thats lame, chicks don't dig it, if you want to have a bad boy type image, I say get a tat on your back b/w your shoulder blades, they look sweet, are hidden unless you want to take your shirt off and unless you are looking at your back in a mirror you can't even see it and forget its even there.

 

I LOVE my Jolly Roger tat for those reasons and then some. It's the only tattoo I have and I don't regret it for a second.

Bottom line is you have to keep those things in for so long while the hole heals. And that's if you don't mind the swellings when it gets a touch of infection, which it will. You have to ask yourself if you can stand being out of any professional situation for the endless period of time while it heals. Hope your local record store's hiring.

 

Back when I was about 25, a group of my buddies went together to get tattoos on their ankles. They all got the same one — the yellow smiley-face. I wasn't able to go, for whatever reason. Maybe I had the good sense to decline the offer. I can't really remember. Regardless, I don't regret not getting a tattoo one bit. Especially now that everybody and their brother's mother's uncle has tattoos all over their body.

But do what you want. Just know the baggage attached with long-term decisions such as these.

I remember when I was growing up (and that was a LONG TIME AGO in a once small college town), I wanted my ears pierced. My mother planned to have it done for me for Valentine's Day and my father about had a COW. He told me that "If God intended for you to have holes in your ears, he would have put them there". Of course . . . my responce was . . . "if God intended for you to have glasses, he would have glued them to your face". It didn't go over very well at the time but . . . I did get my ears pierced. :ylsuper:

 

Now that I'm older I understand what my father was trying to say . . . DON'T DO IT!!!!!! I love my pierced ears (only one on each side) but . . . people have gone overboard and it is not attractive in any way!!

 

My advice (since you asked) DON'T DO IT

I would not do it either! I have been in business for a long time and I have turned people away for job's that had pierced ring's. I was interviewing a young man for a nice job one day and he had to talk with customer's on the telephone, he had his tung pierced and I could hardly understand a word he said. He was not hired and I know some people will say it is not fair however, this is the real world and for someone like yourself going to school you may want to think twice. I too am from the old school. JD

 

This is the exact type scenerio that I was talking about in my earlier post. Some may say that "it doesn't matter"............Trust me it certainly does.

 

I have been in supervisory positions with some companies in some jobs and I can assure you that as soon as the interviewer sees the "piercings" the interview for all pratical purposes is over, the impression that a person like this has just given the company is not a favorable one at all.

:thumb: My thoughts exactly on piercings of any kind on a guy and the girls.

 

On another note, I know of a coach once that told his players that he could not control the fact if they had and wore earrings out in public or not.

He could however control and tell them that they were NOT to wear them at any team function, during travel with the team or anything that was representing the school with the team. This coach went on to tell his players that if they as much as showed up on the practice field or even clubhouse wearing them that he would rip them out of their ears on the spot......

 

That may sound "over the top" but I can about assure you that he never had to make that choice and see what the consequences would have been on him - there were no piercings/jewelry to be seen around him.
