They are big names when they would start for Pineville right now and probably make the All-SEKC team over Pineville's upper classmen. The players I named will be big time players for Bell County in the next few years.

First of all parents, alumni, and the citizens of Pineville need to let someone coach the kids without advising the coach on a daily basis. A coach is paid to do a job--let him do it. I know all those boys, Ben, Dominic, and Taylor. They will be fine players in a year or two. I also know that they were heart broken when they were refused a cvc title in the 5th grade. talk about supporting your team. They went undefeated in regular season and were denied, by the school, to play in the cvc play-offs. They were all heart broken. Imagine those young boys winning every game and being told they had played to many games and could not play in the play-offs. They beat Bell Co. three times that year and Bell won the cvc title because Pineville wasn't permitted to play. I believe that is the year Ben and Dominic left. Taylor joined the next year and all hope was gone. Pineville could have had a great team for several years to come had they remained there, however who would want to play for a school who refused them a chance at the championship? Support means Support.

Players have to work extremely hard, respect the coach, and be treated equally. Those boys have that on log mountain. If you care about them then support them regardless to where they chose to go.

The best middle school group that I recall (undefeated in 6th grade and very close to it in 8th grade) would be sophomores if they are still there. I am confident that a tough RB (Hendrickson?) and WR Nunnelley both saw significant varsity action last year as freshmen among others. I would expect an improved team and a very even matchup with Harlan deciding a 2 seed and home playoff game.

More too it than meets the eye! Seems as if he was advised that he would be a star and when in fact he is not he wants to cut and run. KHSAA will not allow it. Best thing for the young man to do is to take some coaching and GO TO WORK and earn a position. He defiantly has the talent to do so but does not seem to want to pay the price.

 

To be a good HS player there is a lot more in the equation than just talent.

I have been to his house, he lifts all the time and does 200 push-ups ever morning and night. From what I know the kid loves football. I don't think he is the type to run from anything or anyone. I can't see his parents allowing him to return to Pineville, maybe Knox Central if he has to leave Bell. From what I understand he has some family there willing to take full custody of him which I think would make him eligible next year according to moving and gaurdian rules of khsaa.

He was one of the top 3 or 4 QB's in the mountains during that time.

I can not think of the freshman back that Bell Co. had this season, but he was a Pineville kid until the 7th grade. He has a chance to be one of the best RB's to come out of Bell High. Sorry, I will try to get back on the main topic. I think Pineville should be back in the playoffs next season. They will be in a battle for second in the District with Harlan.

I know what I have been told by some people in and around the program. He seems to be not too committed yet. They also say he could be a very good player if he gets his head on straight.

I remember the early 90's well. Woolum was hurt at his home before his senior year before school started (broken leg). Sat out the entire year and requested that the KHSAA grant him additional year. (Others have done the same Bobby Lefew was 19 at Boyle County before the season started.) If my memory serves me correctly Toby Bishop ended up being the quarterback and did and outstanding job as well as Jerome Ferguson a Freshmen. There have been others that have left that could have made an impact but felt like that winning was more important than doing the right thing. Ben Brooks also left and went to Bell Co. He probably should have been played up in the 8th grade like Craig Yeast and Dennis Johnson, but he probably would not have played in front of Mitchell Jeffrey and Gary Miller.

This is quite amusing. They are no big names in high school sports at all. They are kids. I can't name one player to leave this entire area on a full atheletic scholarship, become a college all-star, and make it to the NFL or NBA. If they are lucky enough to receive a scholarship, they usually loose it because of grades. If they walk on, they never touch a ball of any kind. If tey go through te draft, they are cut in spring camp, so who are you kidding. Their are no stars in high school an only a few in college. Let these young men play and have fun doing it without all the pressure thrill seeking adults put on them. They would be much better off and probably play much better ball too. Can you name me one high school star?
