Nice win for Coach Robinson and the Jackets on the road. Doubt many expected this.

This was a great win for Williamsburg, congrats! I too don't think that many expected this win, but that is why they play the game.

This win doesn't surprise me. The Jackets have really been steppin it up with the exception of the Harlan game.

First of all I understand that there will be people that take exception to this POST!!!

However, I am not a parent to the players, Not in the school system,

Just an old player who has also coached this game. I am not

anti-Coach Robinson he is probably a nice person and was a good player.

However, that will not ensure he is a good coach.

 

I read everytime coach Robinson wins a game, this is a great win for him. Well, what has there been 4 or 5 great wins this season. There is talent on this team, However this young inexperienced coaching staff does not bring it out. I have watched many games this year, I have seen the coach sit down and give up during games and quit coaching, I have heard this coach blame losses on the kids when speaking on the radio ( Kids just didnt play hard like I tell them too.) He must learn that there is more than playing hard. You must teach offensive plays, rebounding, teamwork, discipline, etc.

This is a team that returned 4 starters (I believe) and had a better year last year. If Williamsburg does not find a more experienced coach to

take over or help with this program it will not improve. I have witnessed this coaching staff go into the locker room at half with all their timeouts still remaining and be losing by 22 or more. This makes you scratch your head!!!!! They had a player score 57 of 70 points in a game and not try a different defensive approach.

 

Best of luck to the boys They have talent and have been playing hard.

IMO this is a strange post after W'burg's biggest win in a few seasons. I believe this Coach replaced the one who left after less than a month on the job, not the old one there for several years. I also felt the Jackets would be much better this year as well but they are coming off a good win at B'vile so congrats to them.

Good Win for the 'burg!

I have become a big fan of Williamsburg this past year. Good Luck to the athletes and coaches as they finish strong. I know their athletes and they will continue to fight. :fight:

Yes there was the incident with Coach Jones, but Robinson was his assistance. Jones never coached a season.

I don't know how anyone can say this is not a good win. A win over Barbourville at Barbourville is a good win for a team and a coach even if Robinson had 20 years of experience.

Why would a successful, experienced coach want to go to Williamsburg? Only kind of coach you are going to get at a small class "A" school is inexperienced. So should W'burg go with a coach that is going to use it as a stepping stone and be gone in a year or 2, or go with someone with strong school and community ties that will stay for the long term. Sure young coaches make mistakes, but they learn from them and get better. Robinson has the basketball knowledge, the work ethic, and will continue to improve as a coach as he gains experience. An outsider with the same traits would jump ship as soon as a better (larger school) offer came along.

You know there are literally millions of people who have "coached this game" -Coach Robinson inherited a program that was both rock bottom and had a misfortunate circumstance to occur related to school personnel. I am not for sure that the "school system" had lots of people who have "coached this game" beating down the doors to walk into a situation that Coach Robinson agreed to take. Say what you want - W'burg's program needed stability on a lot of fronts that weren't necessarily related to W's and L's. Coach Robinson has chosen where to begin bringining this stability to the Jacket program and his efforts will lead to W's. I support Coach Robinson and commend him on having the patience and overall vision to guide W'burg's program back to a sustained competitive level.

 

Williamsburg has taken a lot of teams,more accomplished than this one, and walked out of both the Old Barbourville gym and the new one with a "L" saddled on their backs. This is a great win for the players and, yes, for Coach Robinson as well. Anyone has to admit that a "down program" has to begin getting good wins somewhere. You are right, there are people who take exception to your post. What's your point? Why not just say "Good win" and be happy for the Jackets? Everyone has worked hard and it's beginning to show. Sounds like you had some sour grapes for breakfast this morning.

Very good post. He has made mistakes but Wburg lost their top 2 scorers off last years team in Kilgor and Mccray, actually their best 2 players. I do think they have some talent on the team but they have improved from losing by 13 at home to Bville and beating them by 4 at Bville. As far as letting someone score 57 of 70 points I remember this coach, I believe his name was Rupp, who would say about some guy named Maravich " we'll let the boy get his as long as we win the game". Wburg won that game by about 10.
